Hello, Summer! It's time to welcome the days of warm sunshine, beach vacations, and playing outside! Summer is such a fun time of year. This Summer, continue to build your learner's reading skills in a fun, engaging, and interactive way. This 4-week class meets twice per week and involves learners in fun, engaging projects and activities related to texts they are reading and comprehending in class. Every week will involve a new, fun topic that is sure to help foster a love of reading, writing, and learning for your child!

This class will teach learners how to use graphic organizers, text evidence, and key details from the text to comprehend narratives and informational texts.  Learners will be given the opportunity to read texts, respond to questions, and practice using written response skills. Learners will be taught essay and paragraph writing skills along with key tips for answering questions by restating the question and referring to text evidence. This class will also include regular art or science projects that are relevant to that week's topic. 

NOTE: Class texts will be posted in the classroom ahead of time. Please have a copy ready for your learner. When we are completing art and science projects related to the texts, please make sure your learner arrives to class with all materials prepped. We will not have time to wait for learners to gather supplies.

Class Structure: 
The class will include some teacher-led discussion, student-led discussion, and engaging, hands-on activities. Learners are encouraged to share ideas and thoughts throughout the class.

Note: The writing taught in this class will be reader response writing in paragraph form. This class will not include creative writing.

I will teach in an engaging, inclusive, and interactive manner. We will sometimes use fun games and quizzes while learning. We will read stories and discuss them before completing fun projects together. My teaching style is focused on building student relationships, forming an inclusive classroom environment, and providing a rich educational experience.

The learners will interact with myself and each other throughout the whole class during slides, discussions, video clips, and projects.  Learners should be reading at a 2nd Grade level or higher and be able to write complete sentences.

I am a certified PK-3 teacher who has taught Reading and Writing in a regular classroom environment. I enjoy the topic and am very familiar with it. I look forward to having your learner in class!

Parents should always be nearby to assist learners if needed with art projects and to ensure safety using materials. As per Outschool policy, all parents, siblings, and friends may help but must remain off camera at all times. Only the enrolled learner may appear on screen. External Sources: * Canva and Google Slides - I use Canva and Slides to display content and material to students. They will not click any links or use the program on their own. * Kahoot - Learners have the opportunity to interact on Kahoot in games and activities. The link will be provided in the classroom. Learners are able to click the link and play the Kahoot game. They do not need an account, but the site will ask them to write a name.
