We will cover some strategies like inferencing, using a story map, summarizing and literary devices to convey a deeper understanding of the text and to ensure that we understand the main idea of the passage that we will be reading. Students don't often use these strategies and end up confused or unable to describe what happened. In turn, students will be able to answer detailed questions about what they are reading to show their comprehension. They will sort out main ideas and supporting details and they will also practice how to put their thinking from what they learned into words. Week 1: Elements of a story (setting, plot, etc.) (Oct 6 @ 11 am) Week 2: Summarizing (Oct 13 @ 11 am) Week 3: Inferencing (Oct 20 @ 11 am) Week 4: Literary devices (Oct 27 @ 11 am)
