In this ongoing class, learners will practice reading comprehension skills. Each week will focus on a different skill: Analyze Character, Author's Purpose (Entertain), Author's Purpose (Inform), Cause and Effect, Classify Information, Compare and Contrast, Fact or Opinion, Main Idea and Details, Make Inferences and Draw Conclusions, Problem and Solution, Sequence of Events. During each class I will introduce the comprehension skill for the week. Students will take turns reading a passage projected on screen in class. Together we will apply the week's skill on the passage read. During the last part of class, students will be directed to apply the skills learned in class to an independent practice passage. The independent practice passage will be provided in the classroom as a printable file. Schedule Week of May 5: Analyze Character Week of May 12: Author's Purpose (Entertain) Week of May 19: Author's Purpose (Inform) Week of May 26: Cause and Effect Week of June 2: Classify Information Week of June 9: Compare and Contrast Week of June 16: Fact or Opinion Week of June 23: Main Idea and Details Week of June 30: Make Inferences and Draw Conclusions Week of July 7: Problem and Solution Week of July 14: Sequence of Events

I graduated from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences. I have taught children for over 15 years. My background includes teaching EFL online to learners aged 4-16 as well as teaching preschool.
I live near Seattle, Washington with my husband and two children. We also have a Siberian Husky, two tuxedo cats, two ferrets, a leopard gecko and a crested gecko.
