Objective:
This class offers students the experience to read a short story and analyze it closely. Students will explore vocabulary, story elements, text structure, and creative writing. Students will use these strategies to help create their own writing piece by the end of class. Students will be able to write their own creative, short story and apply vocabulary and story elements within their writing.

Class Structure:
I will begin class by introducing the story for our lesson along with specific vocabulary. We will explore the meaning of important concepts within the story and make connections to develop understanding. This will lead the class to reading and analyzing the story closely. Students will become familiar with the text structure and identify the story elements which will led them into developing their very own story. Students will have the opportunity to develop a creative writing piece. Students will be exposed to a rich vocabulary as well as critical and creative thinking skills.

Teaching style:
This class will consist of meaningful discussions, engaging activities such as reading short stories, interactive lessons, and a writing activity.

I am enthusiastic and full of positive energy. I enjoy having fun learning with my students and like to keep an upbeat, welcoming environment.

Students will have access to the story we will read prior to class. Students are encouraged to read the story provided prior to class. A graphic organizer and a story frame will also be provided for each student to print out.

Basic reading fluency skills are necessary for this course. This course will build on foundational skills learned in previous grades.

Course outline:
We will read a short story in class and analyze it. Students will discuss and identify important text structure and story elements such as characters, setting, plot, conflict, and resolution. Students will have the option to fill out a graphic organizer that will be provided to print out prior to class. Students will then transition to creating their own story based on a picture that is shown. Students will apply prior knowledge as well as what we have learned about story structure and story elements to create their very own short story within a certain amount of time. A story frame is provided if your learner needs a scaffold or an idea of how to get started. Students will have the opportunity to share stories by the end of class.
学習到達目標
Students will strengthen critical thinking skills as well as creative writing skills. Comprehension, asking questions, making predictions and inferencing are also a few skills students will improve as well. Students will have exposure to an interesting short story that will allow them to explore text structure, story elements, and vocabulary that will provide them with knowledge and confidence to apply in their writing.

I would like to say thank you for taking the time out to read a little bit about me and for considering me as a part of your child’s learning journey! My passion for teaching continues to strengthen as each year passes! I take pride in building relationships with my students. Having a positive and welcoming environment is something that helps facilitate learning which ensures student engagement and success! I strive for my classroom environment to be warm and welcoming. It is important to me that my students are able to make meaningful connections and build confidence. My ultimate goal is to provide the best learning experience for my students that gets them excited and passionate about learning.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am currently certified to teach grades Pre-K—5 and Special Education Grades K—12. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I also hold a certification in School Counseling. I have taught (and still teach) in a public school setting going on 13 years. The first 4 years I taught 3rd grade, pre-k and kindergarten. Now, for the past 9 years and counting, I have been teaching Special Education in the Elementary setting. Teaching regular and special education has provided me with countless opportunities to work with a variety of students. I have the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students. I am also able to individualize lessons and provide direct, explicit instruction by providing modifications and accommodations when necessary.

I was introduced to online teaching when I began my experience of teaching English as a Second Language with VIPkid to students who were learning English. This experience had motivated me to branch out and continue teaching online. It had inspired me to expand my platform providing me with the opportunity of teaching classes online for 5 years. I love meeting new people and being able to help make a difference in a learner’s educational experience.

Thank you for reading, and I hope to work with your child in the future! I am looking forward to meeting many students and exploring new concepts with them.
