Let's meet the woman who is credited with starting the modern environmental movement! In this class, we will take a look at the life and influence of Rachel Carson. She was an American marine biologist, author, and conservationist whose book "Silent Spring" is credited with advancing the global environmental movement. We will examine the book's legacy in popular culture, music, literature, and art. We will examine how chemical companies tried to discredit her, and what impact her April 3, 1964 television special had on public opinion of environmental needs. We will talk about how society and people have changed since the 1960's and what we do in our everyday lives to make a difference to the environment.
