* Students will master public speaking skills for delivery a quality speech (volume, tempo, eye contact, vocal variety, gestures, etc.). 
* Students will practice delivery of different types of speeches (demonstration, persuasion, impromptu, storytelling, etc.).
* Students will provide one another with positive speech feedback. 

My name is Dr. Julie Connor and I am a confidence builder.  I help students discover their unique talents and speak in front of others with confidence. I am a TED speaker, school assembly speaker, and award-winning Toastmaster.  I help students develop writing skills to organize information, craft a quality speech, and deliver a strong presentation. Students also learn how nonverbal communication such as eye contact, voice, and body language can strengthen (or weaken) a terrific speech.  I have prepared students to compete in local and national speech competitions as a coach and critiqued presentations as a speech contest judge.  

My doctoral degree is in education. I am certified to teach elementary education (K-8) as well as secondary communication arts, speech and theater, English, and science education. I have more than 30 years of teaching experience in traditional and online classrooms.  I empower student teachers and seasoned educators with the same creative and interactive strategies I use with students. 

As a school assembly speaker and communication consultant, I help students and adults throughout the country talk about tough topics.  I equip children and teens with skills to communicate, resolve conflicts, and build teamwork. I empower them with skills to create SMART personal goals that prepare them for success. Learners will (1) practice public speaking skills and (2) review how to prepare an outline for each speech during class time.  The teacher will provide an outline for speech preparation as well as sample outlines for every speech.  The speech outline will be completed by learners as homework to prepare for their speech presentations. 

The teacher will provide written feedback and consultation with students who want to prepare and rehearse specific speeches upon request.

Outlines can also be used to provide grades for children and teens enrolled in homeschool programs or for students who want to take this course for class credit.  Please contact me regarding homework grades for public speaking credit.

In-Class Assessments include discussion, thumbs up / thumbs down, brainstorming, read aloud sharing, step-by-step check-ins of the outline progress throughout the class, guided practice to check for understanding, independent writing practice; self-assessment, positive feedback to and from students in the class

No grades are offered for students who are enrolled in this class to increase their public speaking confidence, prepare a speech for a specific event, or for personal enjoyment.

Grades can be provided for parents with children and teens enrolled in homeschool programs or for students who want to take this course for class credit.  I have BS, MS, EdS, and doctoral degrees in elementary and secondary education with additional teaching certifications in English/language arts, communication arts, speech & theater, and science education.
