Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
**IMPORTANT: The age range may exceed 13 years old.**
**This class is for once-a-week tutoring; please see my other tutor listing for multiple sessions**

This class is to request one-on-one tutoring sessions to help students with their writing, reading, or language speaking skills in English. I will work individually with students to create personal curriculum and activities to help build students confidence and understanding in the areas requested. Each session will include teaching throughout as we practice on the area that needs to be strengthen. The first lesson will be me asking the student their interests/hobbies and what do they want to see with their progress. The remaining of the lessons will apply those desires to their learning for a more engaging experience. Here are the topics that can be requested for tutoring,

Topics include but not limited to:
Grammar (subject-verb agreement, punctuation, verb tenses, sentence order, parts of speech, capitalization, independent vs dependent clauses)
Writing essays (persuasive, descriptive, expository, business letters)
Creative writing (literary devices, tone/mood, descriptive details)
Reading comprehension (summarizing, plot structure, character voice, comparing/contrasting, cause/effect, etc)
Literary analysis (theme, symbolism, character development)
Phonics/ Sight words (Identifying groups of letters and how these groups can help with pronunciation)
Identifying the English Alphabet
Vocabulary (context clues, synonyms, antonyms, slang words)
Reading textbooks
Effective note-taking
Test-taking strategies

These areas can be learned/practiced/reviewed in a variety and numerous ways, in which case, I work to find the best way to help your learner understand the concepts requested. This can mean students will practice their skills through audio, visual, kinetic practice and through concrete and abstract observations or even other ways depending on the student individually. If there's not a section within the time you need, please place a schedule request to work on a time that best fits your schedule. My teaching style is to find the student’s interest and include it in their learning. I always encourage students to speak their thoughts and ideas as we learn together.
