Learn what it takes to work and live in space in this interactive Space Camp. We start out the week learning about rockets. We will learn about astronaut training and life in space. On Thursday we will find out about the dangers of getting astronauts back home. We will explore the physics and the laws of motion that guide and explain space travel.

This is an interactive class with plenty of voluntary student participation. I use models, pictures, and videos during the class. We will also do a project every day to give students hands-on experience. Primus Science Summer Space Camp brings the Space Camp experience into your home.

We will do a project every day based on the topic.
Day 1: Rockets - Getting into space / We will make a straw-launched paper rocket
Day 2: Astronauts - Humans in Space / We will do an Astronaut Training Exercise
Day 3: Living in Space/ Students will design their own space station
Day 4: Getting Back Home - Our return to Earth / We will test heat shields
Day 5: Newton's Laws / We will do a motion experiment

You will need the following materials for this class:

Day 1: 1 disposable straw, tape, piece of paper, scissors
Day 2: 1 pair of thick gloves (winter gloves, gardening gloves, or rubber cleaning gloves work well - thick socks can work too), an empty toilet paper tube, and your choice of Legos or building blocks or a stack of coins or a handful of small pebbles or 6-10 straws
Day 3: Crayons, markers, tape, glue plus we will need a variety of items, choose at least four: empty juice boxes, empty toilet paper rolls, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, straws, balloons, foil, colorful paper, construction paper
Day 4: 2-3 disposable paper or plastic cups, 2-3 pieces of cold butter, a hair dryer, white glue, tape, and at least three of the following: paper, small pieces of cardboard, cotton balls, pieces of Styrofoam (Styrofoam meat trays, bowls, plates or cups), bubble wrap
Day 5: 1 plastic BENDABLE straw (the straw MUST be a bendable straw for the experiment to work), 1 piece of paper, tape, scissors, 1 ball (ping pong balls or cotton balls work best)

We will be using safety scissors in some of our projects. Please have an adult to assist if your child needs help with scissors. We will be watching educational videos. Many are from NASA. Some may be on YouTube.

"Paint like ..." art classes where students will learn about famous artists and create their own artwork based on the artists' works. "Smart Science" classes where we explore science and complete experiments and projects. Kid Cuisine classes are cooking classes for Young Chefs based on historic foods and science topics. Students should be prepared to make, explore, and create during class. Annette knows hands-on, interactive experiences are the best way for children to learn.
