I've taught playwriting for over twenty years. I started with Playwrights' Project in San Diego and Los Angeles where I worked with students of all ages in the public schools as a guest artist. I also worked with San Diego Opera alongside a composer helping students write original works of musical theater. I've taught playwriting in settings as diverse as foster care facilities and ivy league colleges.

Students should expect to spend around an hour a week working on their play. A reasonable expectation would be a ten page play which translates to only a few pages per scene. Some may want to spend more time and write more; others will write quickly and need less time. It's really up to each student.
