このクラスで学べること
This flexible, one-on-one class structure is designed for beginner to intermediate piano students ages 10-14. This class will teach concepts including, but not limited to, navigating the keyboard, rhythmic fluency, note identification, musical symbols, and musicianship. Students will develop these skills while playing music specifically selected for their learning level. While mastering these music-specific concepts, students will be developing general skills including active listening, critical thinking, fine-motor skills, and self-discipline. Since this is a one-on-one class, the lessons will be tailored to each individual student's learning style, in a relaxed, fun teaching environment. The number of pieces, and the pace at which we work on them, will be determined by what is best for the individual student. No prior knowledge of the instrument is required, but regular practice on a keyboard or piano in the student's home is necessary between each weekly lesson. This class begins in January and roughly follows a typical academic calendar, concluding in early March. Students have the option to sign up for Spring Term B, which begins immediately afterwards, and concludes in late May with the option for an online recital. Week 1: Assess student; assign first piece(s) Week 2: Review first piece(s); introduce technical warm-ups (ex. scales, arpeggios) Week 3: Begin with technical warm-ups; review first piece(s), fix any note/rhythm issues Week 4: Continue technical warm-ups; final review of first piece(s) before mid-session review Week 5: Technical warm-ups; mid-session assessment of current repertoire, focusing on technique and musicality Week 6: Technical warm-ups; assign new piece(s) for second half of term Week 7: Technical warm-ups, review pieces from previous week, fixing any note/rhythm issues Week 8: Technical warm-ups; review pieces from previous week, focusing on technique and musicality Week 9: Technical warm-ups; mock-recital and/or begin assessment to be concluded in Week 10. Week 10: Technical warm-up review and assessment; end of session assessment of all repertoire during "mini-recital"

教師の専門知識と資格
I am an Classically-trained pianist based out of southwest Ohio, where my wife and I own and operate a private music studio. I've taught for over 15 years, and teach students ages 5 to adult, from beginners to advanced pianists. Previously, I've taught music history and theory and held the position of Collaborative Pianist at the collegiate level, before deciding to focus on our music studio full time. During the weekends I host Classical music radio on Discover Classical, which you can listen to online at discoverclassical.org.
