このクラスで学べること
In this class the students will embark on their very own treasure hunt. I will begin by reading them Yo! Ho! Ho! A Pirate's Treasure by Margo Fallis to get them fully engaged in the lesson. Then the students will have to find clues that include three pictures. I will guide the students through identifying the beginning sound of each word, then blending those three sounds together to read a CVC word. Throughout the class I will call on each student to help in one of three ways; finding where the clue is, identify a beginning sound or to blend the word together. This will be a very interactive and fun class for beginning readers.

Welcome Parents and Little Learners!
My name is Mara, and I am so excited you are here! We are going to have so much fun together because I truly believe that children (especially at this age) learn best through play. I want my students to be in an environment where they thrive and that means creating a safe and engaging space for them, even when online. I can not wait to build a relationship with your child and learn what they love so I can incorporate that into our classes such as Lego Star Wars sight words or Encanto math problems. I also want to get your child up and moving to engage the whole child for the information to stick better.
I am a certified teacher in California and just finished my first year of teaching Kindergarten in Texas at an independent school. I graduated from California Baptist University with a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in Early Childhood Education. I also received my Masters in the Art of Teaching from Pepperdine University. I have worked in Kindergarten, 2nd and 5th grade classrooms as well as worked as the Head of Children's Ministry at my church for 7 years.
Outside of school you can find me going on adventures with friends and family. I love to explore new places whether it is a new country, national park or even just a new hike that my husband and I can take our dog, Rex, on. I do love to travel to new places but South Africa will always have a special place in my heart because of the children there and I will always be drawn back there.
I can't wait for you all to get to know me better and for me to get to know you and your child!
