このクラスで学べること

This is an ongoing class that focuses on social interaction amongst students who share a common interest: photography. Students will notice and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors by taking pictures of the sceneries around them, upload them to the classroom wall and then share their photos with the other students during our live zoom meeting. They will be encouraged to interact with one another, to maintain dialog and conversation, and to critique photographs in a positive way. The teacher will act as facilitator, asking questions about the scenes, composition, lighting, etc. and pointing out details of the photographs, and encouraging conversation.

Week 1: May 1: Nature Photo Walk. Get outside, whether it's out at a park, by the river, or your own backyard and notice your surroundings. What are some things you see? Trees, sky, flowers? Get down low, do you see insects or maybe some nests? Is there something out of the ordinary, maybe some flowers or unusual mushrooms? Capture it with your camera. Let your viewers see your surroundings through your eyes. Be creative with your viewpoint and set your camera low or change it up with landscape or portrait orientation on your picture.

Week 2: May 8: Wildlife. There are world famous photographers who make a lot of money taking photos of wildlife. See what you can find outside to take photos of. Insects, birds, squirrels, rabbits, deer, etc. Live in the city? That's okay, I'm sure there is something creeping around outside for you to capture (with your camera, of course!)

Week 3: May 15: The sky. Don't just point your camera up to the sky and shoot. Be creative! Check out the colors of a sunset or sunrise. What kinds of shapes are those clouds making? Is a storm a-brewing? Capture it!

Week 4: May 22: Macro. One of my favorite types of photography is macro and what better place to do it than the outdoors?? Macro means really close up! So use your zoom and get close to your subject to capture some really beautiful details. Flowers, insects, birds, the sky, the river, whatever you see outside, zoom it in and bring it up close!

Each week, we will share our pictures and experiences with getting outside.

I've been a teacher in a traditional classroom since 2002. During that time, I have experience with pre-K through 8th grade. To further my interest in photography, I completed the New York Institute of Photography courses and received my certificate of completion in 2006. I've also completed several online training to strengthen my skills. I have photographed weddings, real estate, and portraits professionally but I absolutely love photographing nature and macro shots!
