宿題:
週1時間. Each week we may have 1 or 2 problems or a worksheet to do at home. We will discuss this during class. I will send out a homework sheet (if necessary) and we will review the homework at the beginning of the next lesson. Homework is not mandatory but is highly encouraged. It should only take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.
テスト
I will check in with the parents if the learner is struggling in a specific area. I always welcome questions/comments during the semester.

This semester long ongoing course covers the first half of first grade math. It has a total of 10 weeks. It is ongoing, so you may join/leave any week. Each week is a different math objective. I did this to accommodate virtual learners who are unsure of their schedule and possible changes during the semester. My classes are interactive and fun. I like to engage the children and we all problem solve together. I use props, a whiteboard, and fun animated PowerPoint slides during my lessons. I always encourage learner interaction and I check in occasionally with a thumb's up to make sure there are no questions before we proceed.

I have 3 different first grade classes listed for semester 1. They are all different formats (per requests from parents) but cover the exact same 10 lessons. You may choose which format works best for your learner. They are as follows:

Fun With First Grade Math: Semester 1 (Camp) - meets twice/week for 5 weeks
Fun With First Grade Math: Semester 1 - meets once/week for 10 weeks
Ongoing First Grade Math: Semester 1 - meets weekly and rotates through the 10 lessons (each lesson is standalone so you may join at any time)

The topics for this semester by week:
Week of August 12: Geometry (2D shapes, compose new shapes, halves, quarters, whole)
Week of August 19: Numbers to 50 (count, read, write)
Week of August 26: Understanding place value (ones, tens, bundles)
Week of September 2: Understanding the properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction
Week of September 9: Math fact families (numbers to 10) - relationship between addition and subtraction
Week of September 16: Skip counting to 50 (by 2s, 5s, 10s)
Week of September 23: Addition/subtraction within 20 (objects, pictures, number line, counting on)
Week of September 30: Measurement and data (compare lengths, represent, and interpret data)
Week of October 7: Time (analog and digital – hour, half hour)
Week of October 14: Money (value, equivalent values)
*We then repeat from the top*

受講に必要なもの
The learners will need to print some worksheets at home. They should always have a notebook and pencil. Blocks of any kind (same length/size, different lengths/colors), and something to count (Cheerios, M&Ms, etc). I will send out an email ahead of time if materials are needed for the next class.

Hello! My name is Erin Howard. I love teaching young learners. My passion is to help your young learner gain the knowledge and confidence in their basic math skills. My math classes focus on skills such as solving word problems, learning math fact families, place value, telling time, geometry, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

I have my bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College. I have owned a home daycare, privately tutored students in math, and was a teaching assistant in college. I have taught over 8,000 classes online.

My goal is to bring fun, excitement, and passion into my classroom. It is important for young learners to be engaged, actively participate, and enjoy learning. This builds the foundation of how they will view their journey for knowledge in the future. I know I have accomplished this goal when my students continue to return to my classroom, and I see their personal improvement and how proud they are of their progress.

Outside of work, I am a mother of five children, and I have three grandchildren. My children are my pride and joy. My youngest two children are twins. They are nineteen years old and they are sophomores in college. We enjoy cooking, baking, playing with our dog, watching movies, shopping, and taking trips to visit new places.

I look forward to this journey with you and your young learner. I will see you in the classroom.
