This lesson provides several positive learning outcomes.  By focusing on one celestial body and creating a relevant work of art each week, the learners are able to gain a deeper understanding of our universe and our place in it.  In addition, by learning about the elements of art and the principles of design, the learners are able to gain a deeper understanding of how they provide the building blocks of art, as well as our world around us.  Other learning outcomes include positive communication and critical thinking skills.  Group discussion during the presentation and activity promotes positive communication, as does sharing the artworks in the concluding discussion.  Additionally, the learners will utilize critical thinking skills by applying, analyzing and synthesizing their prior knowledge and experiences into the class discussion as well as into the artwork they create.
