Hello learners and grownups! **I am sorry but I am unable to accept any new learners at this time! ****If you are new to Outschool please let me know before booking so I can give you a first-class discount! In this one-time class we have a chance to meet and get to know each other before we start regular ongoing lessons. Your learner may have some musical experience already that they would like to share with me, whether they have taken lessons before or have been learning on their own, or they may be brand new beginners and need some help with basic instrument care, set-up, tuning, etc. or your learner may simply be considering learning an instrument and be curious to find out more before giving it a try for themselves! Wherever your learner is currently at musically I would love to meet them and learn what their musical dreams for the future are and how I can help them move forward and achieve those dreams! I teach a variety of instruments and styles, mostly focused on music in the bluegrass and American and Celtic folk/roots/trad genres.

Hello parents and learners!

I grew up on a farm in Tennessee (USA) and in addition to music I also love raising rabbits, pollinator gardening, and reading! I and my husband currently live with our five beautiful children in the state of North Carolina. I am excited to be part of the Outschool family!
Music has always been a big part of my life, starting with classical piano, which I began at age 8, taking private lessons from a professor at the University of Tennessee. Later on, in my teens, my interests shifted to strings and traditional Appalachian and Celtic music. I learned from many people, including bluegrass musician Justin Moses and as a student of Jim Wood at the Jim and Inge Wood School of Music. As a young adult, I worked as a volunteer interpreter at Cade’s Cove, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, teaching park visitors about Appalachian music. I have played professionally for weddings and other events, in restaurant house bands, as well as at the Museum of Appalachia in Norris, TN. I have led traditional music demonstrations for public school classes, in addition to teaching privately for many years.
I am passionate about introducing young people to traditional Appalachian and Celtic music and helping them perfect their skills!
I primarily teach fiddle/violin and Appalachian old-time and Celtic music, but also bluegrass, Western swing and Texas contest-style fiddle. I also play guitar, both standard and Celtic (DADGAD), piano, mandolin, recorder, penny whistle, mountain dulcimer, ukulele and Irish bouzouki.
I see each learner as a unique individual and cater my teaching approach to best suit their needs and interests.
