Welcome to Ocean Exploration: Marine Species (on-going)! This is the on-going section of ocean exploration interactive unit study. This format was created for families to pay weekly and for learners to attend the lessons that they choose. (**Please note- this class runs in 8 week sessions. If your learner is unable to attend one of the lessons, feel free to hop into another open section for that week. Please check in to see which topic we are on for the week if you are unsure.) The lessons do not build on each other, though it is fun to experience all of the lessons with their hands-on activities! Classes start with an interactive presentation followed by an experiment or hands-on activity that helps students visualize and better understand the topic of the day. Sometimes our activities and experiments take place in the beginning or middle of the presentation based on what we are learning. I believe in order to fully understand something it is best to jump in and experience it! This class is a multi-disciplinary course as there is a combination of science, art, and a wee bit of math. Check out our topic list! 8/14-The infamous stonefish- camouflage prototype 8/21- Breathing and all of that saltwater- desalinization project 8/28- The species with many arms- octopus activity 9/4- Ocean acidification- seashells ashore 9/8- Sea turtles- measurements and more 9/16- Coral reef part 1 - replica project 9/25- Coral reef part 2 - threats to coral reef: game 10/1- fish dissection **Please note- there is a dissection in this class. Students can order a fish from the link below or purchase a whole fresh fish from the store. https://www.homesciencetools.com/search.php?search_query=Fish

Hi! My name is Kristi and I am so happy you ventured over to my science learning lab!
My goal is for students to have fun, maybe get messy, and gain a love for science! My teaching style is interactive and hands-on as I try to bring science to life. My classes work well for the kinesthetic learner.
You will find that most of my classes have a hands-on component to complement the learning experience and my presentations are very visual.
I do my very best to keep prices lower than average as I understand how quickly classes add up for parents. Keeping the prices lower also helps parents as there are material lists for experiments and activities. However, almost every class that I have has a coupon! Please reach out if you need assistance.
When I am not teaching I love to spend time with my daughter outside, gardening, raising chicks, and learning new skills. My goal is to combine some of my hobbies while teaching.
I have been teaching environmental science to students in pre-k through 12th grade for over 12 years. I have taught in various settings including outdoors, in classrooms, and online. I currently run my own business developing and delivering science lessons and custom curriculums to students in school settings, early learning centers, scouts, libraries, and more! I received my B.A.s in Environmental Science and Sociology in 2016 and my M.S. in Resilient and Sustainable Communities in 2019.
