Agenda: Welcome and Introduction Icebreaker: Have students share their favorite stories and what makes them memorable. Telling Tisha's Story The Young Woman who Lived in a SHOE Storytelling Techniques Discussion Discuss the elements of storytelling: Characters: Developing relatable characters. Plot: Creating a compelling and engaging story arc. Setting: Using environments to enhance the narrative. Conflict and Resolution: Building tension and providing solutions. Encourage students to reflect on how they can use these elements in their stories. Hands-On Storyline Development In pairs or small groups, have students brainstorm new story ideas inspired by Tisha’s journey. Prompt them to think of a familiar story (e.g., a fairy tale, a fable) and how they can adapt it with a new setting, characters, or messages about community and resilience. Wednesday November 6, 12 PM PT Session 2: Creating New Stories & Community Projects Objective: Encourage students to create their own stories and discuss practical community projects that align with the themes of resilience and learning. Agenda: Recap and Group Sharing Recap the key storytelling elements discussed in Session 1. Invite groups to share their new story ideas. Story Creation Workshop Have each group develop a short story based on their brainstorming session. Encourage them to incorporate: A main character facing a challenge. How they engage with the community or environment. How they learn and grow through the experience. Provide time for groups to share their drafted stories with the class. Discussion: The Importance of Community and Resilience Engage students in a discussion about the projects and initiatives they can pursue to build community connections. Discuss real-life examples where communities have come together for gardening initiatives, support groups, or other collaborative efforts.
