What will be taught? 1. Students will learn to sing the ABC song in a way that separates letters into individual words, not a mish-mash of elimeno, that can be confusing when it is time to identify individual letters. 2. Students will begin to identify individual letters. 3. Students will learn the letter sounds. 4. Students will learn the basic shapes needed to construct letters. 5. Students will learn to write letters in both upper and lower cases, using shape templates. What topics will you cover? ABC song memorization Letter names Letter sounds Writing letters How is your class structured? The shorter class period is designed to hold young children's attention, without lasting so long they become overwhelmed and fidgety. First we will say hello and chat briefly. Then we will begin class with singing the ABC song. Instruction follows, and each class builds upon the last, using a scaffolding approach. It is important to make sure children feel successful before adding new tasks and skills a little at a time. At the end, we will say good- bye and review any things they need to work on before the next lesson. How will you teach? I teach informally, using interactive Power-point slides, games, singing and add in parent helps along the way. I use a lot of positive reinforcement. What's your teaching style? Informal, positive and caring. How much will learners get to interact with you (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)? The class is fully interactive. There will be games, singing, interactive slides, discussion and more.

This class uses hands on learning, including cardboard cutouts (templates provided to parents) to help with focus. The templates parents will make help children with dyslexia by adding touch and auditory instructions from the teacher.

Cardboard templates (Patterns will be provided for parents to make these), magnetic white board & markers, Students need to be able to use the draw tool in Zoom. (The draw option is not available on Chromebook, so accommodations will be made). A set of magnetic ABC's to use on the whiteboard.
