Welcome to News Blast! This course will focus on current events, as they happen. Each week, students are encouraged to bring a discussion topic to class from the weekly news. Students and the instructor will then discuss the topics, as well as the history leading up to the current events. The instructor will have a weekly event focus each week, meaning there will be content prepared for one event in the world. Due to the unforeseen nature of future events, it is difficult to determine which events will be covered each week. All instructor-led topics will be presented with the help of a powerpoint slideshow, and discussion prompts. Instructor Discussion Topics will be as follows: Week of March 8th: The Ukraine Crisis Week of March 15th: What is Net Neutrality? Week of March 22nd: Jerry-Who? Let’s Talk About Gerrymandering. Week of March 29th: Supreme Court Justices and Their Appointment At this time, the last 15 minutes of each class will be devoted to the discussion of the Russo-Ukrainian War. Note: As the world is constantly changing, and the news is always evolving, it is possible that this schedule will change. As notable events occur, this schedule may be updated. Any updates will be reflected on this class listing and in the classroom prior to class each week.
