During "Nature Scavenger Hunt", students will participate in a series of interactive guided nature scavenger hunts, complete with dedicated share-and-show time for their discoveries. Students will learn through a combination of peer discussions and teacher-led activities. Through the use of live video meetings, printable resources and lively conversations, students will learn about the natural world around them using their senses. Class time will be structured in the following way: Week 1: Students should come to class with their listening ears on. Class expectations and schedules will be reviewed. Student questions are always welcomed and encouraged. Teacher will review the topic of the first nature scavenger hunt (Sight). Week 1 class will include preparation activities for help in identifying various items from the scavenger hunt. Note: Weekly scavenger hunts will be posted on the Classroom Homepage each week, directly after class concludes. Homework after Week 1 class concludes: -Complete the “Sight” nature scavenger hunt -Complete your choice of student output (photo, video, drawings); this can be posted to the Outschool Classroom Homepage and/or brought to next week's class (instructions on page 3 in the attached class file) Week 2: Students should come to class with their listening ears on. Student homework will be celebrated and applauded by teacher and peers alike! Student questions are always welcomed and encouraged. Teacher will review the topic of the second nature scavenger hunt (Smell). Week 2 class will include preparation activities for help in identifying various items from the scavenger hunt. Note: Weekly scavenger hunts will be posted on the Classroom Homepage each week, directly after class concludes. Homework after Week 2 class concludes: -Complete the “Smell” nature scavenger hunt -Complete your choice of student output (photo, video, drawings); this can be posted to the Outschool Classroom Homepage and/or brought to next week's class (instructions on page 3 in the attached class file) Week 3: Students should come to class with their listening ears on. Student homework will be celebrated and applauded by teacher and peers alike! Student questions are always welcomed and encouraged. Teacher will review the topic of the third nature scavenger hunt (Sound). Week 3 class will include preparation activities for help in identifying various items from the scavenger hunt. Note: Weekly scavenger hunts will be posted on the Classroom Homepage each week, directly after class concludes. Homework after Week 3 class recording is viewed: -Complete the “Sound” nature scavenger hunt -Complete your choice of student output (photo, video, drawings); this can be posted to the Outschool Classroom Homepage and/or brought to next week's class (instructions on page 3 in the attached class file) Week 4: Students should come to class with their listening ears on. Student homework will be celebrated and applauded by teacher and peers alike! Student questions are always welcomed and encouraged. We'll celebrate the completion of our nature scavenger hunts with a variety of nature-inspired games! Throughout the course of this 4-week class, students will enjoy a variety of nature scavenger hunts, learning how to identify and record natural elements outside, and learning how to organize and speak about their thoughts while sharing their discoveries with classmates.

If students need technological assistance, please provide as necessary. This may include accessing the digital class file and working the features in the Outschool classroom.
Students will need to be accompanied by an adult while outside on their nature scavenger hunts.

Students should have access to an outdoor space for completing their nature scavenger hunts. It is highly recommended that adults accompany their students on the scavenger hunts. Printing the attached class file for reference is recommended, though not required. Printing the weekly nature scavenger hunt (once posted to the Outschool Classroom) is recommended, though not required. Depending on student choice, ability to take photos, record videos, and/or draw illustrations will be needed.
