I am excited to offer this follow up to My Mind on My Money: A Teen Guide to Financial Independence. In this second level of the course, we will dig deeper into the content discussed in Level One. We will move beyond the basics of spending and saving and discuss how to mindfully reduce spending, increase income (even at a young age!) and invest your money wisely. We will specifically discuss how to develop clear, targeted savings goals, how to create new streams of income and low-cost...
I am a social studies educator with a passion for personal finance. I am certified to teach economics, and have a strong knowledge in debt reduction strategies, budgeting and saving. Over the past few years I have educated myself on the principles of Financial Independence and our family is now debt free! I wish someone had shared more financial tips with me when I was younger and I am excited about sharing what I have learned with you! I have taught a variety of social studies courses in both the traditional classroom and online environment for over 13 years. I love making history come to life through first hand accounts, images and stories. While my background is in middle and high school education, I have worked with younger (and older) learners as well. As a homeschooling mom of two (ages 4 and 7) I love the Outschool concept and how it enables teachers to personalize learning for all! Having fun while we learn is so important! I focus on keeping the classroom environment accepting of all students while delving into these important topics.
No materials are needed for this course although having pen and paper nearby is a good idea. Learners will be given a copy of all of the notes from the course which include material for deeper study.

As with any financial topics, I remind learners that they should gather information about investing from a variety of sources. Caregivers, friends, books, financial advisors, etc. I do not give specific financial advice to students in class, although I do share a variety of investing ideas and resources for further consideration. One of the after class assignments is for students to chat with caregivers about what they have learned and share and discuss their ideas for saving and budgeting. To aid caregivers with this conversation, all of our notes and resources from the class will be posted in the classroom so that you can check them out with your learner.
