Class Structure:
Open lecture style.  Teacher will present concepts and students will work through musical examples together.  

Class Interaction:
Teacher and students will work through material together.  Learners will be expected to have supplies (staff paper, teacher created worksheet printouts, pencils, and eraser) to fully participate.  Learners are encouraged to ask questions.

Pre-requisite: Music Theory: Preparatory Level, please contact instructor to see which level would be ideal for you to start in.

Grand Staff Overview

 We will discuss the Grand Staff, construct Grand staff on staff paper, write out notes on staff paper, Guide Notes, discuss intervals, names of the piano keys, and accidentals.

Half Step and Whole Steps

 We will learn about half steps and whole steps both on a keyboard and staff paper, review general music notation, and review reading notes on a staff.

Pentascales and Major Scales

 We will work with Pentascales in all keys, Major scales in CM, GM, DM, FM.

Pentascales and Chords (Major and Minor) on staff paper

 We will write out Pentascales (Major and Minor) on staff paper.  We will learn how to write out chords on staff paper and label with chord symbols.

Either Music Theory: Preparatory Level or several years of instruction on your instrument and fairly proficient music reading. Please contact me if you are unsure which course would suit you best.

Mrs. Erickson has owned and operated Erickson Piano Studio for 27 years.  She has experience teaching Piano, Music Theory, and Music History.  

Mrs. Erickson has received an M.A. in Music (Piano) and M.A.E. In Special Education
