週1時間. Not all homework assignments will be completed during the time but we will start them during the class and I recommend leaving 10-15 minutes free following the class for your musician to continue working and complete their assignments.

このクラスで学べること

This class is an add on for current private and group students(flute or piano) of Michelle. 

During our class we will cover a variety of music theory concepts including note reading, bass clef, treble clef, scales, intervals, musical terms, and independent study time and homework questions.

Each class we will spend 5-10 minutes practicing note reading, 5-10 minutes will be practicing and learning scales and intervals, and each week we will learn a new musical term and how to apply it in our music reading. We will leave 10 minutes at the end of each class to work on your theory assignments for the week and to ask any questions. Additional worksheets and information to extend your theory knowledge will regularly be posted to the classroom. Any youtube videos will be embedded in the classroom for optional viewing.

Week 1- note reading, C major scale, interval review 2nd, Dynamics

Week 2- note reading, C major scale, interval review 2nd & 3rd, Tempo - Adagio, Allegro, Vivace, Andante

Week 3- note reading, G major scale, interval review 2nd, 3rd, & 4th,  Musical Form

Week 4- note reading, G major scale, interval review 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th, 

Week 5- note reading, D major scale, interval review 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th, Fermata

Week 6- note reading, F major scale, interval review 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th, D.C. al fine

Week 7- note reading, F major scale, interval review 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th, D.S. al fine

Week 8- note reading, Bb major scale, interval review 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th, Articulation (staccato, slur, accent, tenuto)

Week 9- note reading, A minor scale, interval review 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th, 

Week 10- note reading, A minor scale,
interval review 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th Tie/slur

Week 11- note reading, E minor scale, interval review 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th, Time Signatures

Week 12- note reading, E minor scale, interval review 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th, Musical Term Hide and Seek!!! ***Bring ALL the lesson/music books you have to class this week for a fun game!

Michelle Wheeler grew up with a passion for music in any form. With the encouragement of her band teachers she flourished as a flautist and continued on after high school to complete her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Regina. In her desire to continue her education she studied flute with Marie-Noelle Berthelet at the University of Regina to complete her Masters of Music Performance. She has trained in Music for Young Children, Kindermusik, and is working towards Level 1 certification in KinderFlute and Blocki Flute methods. 

Currently Michelle is an active learner and is enjoying working with a community of piano teachers and professors to learn and share strategies for teaching piano to beginners. Michelle will complete her certification through the Royal Conservatory of Music as an elementary piano specialist in December. The basis of this intensive course is to work with top piano pedagogues and learn techniques and strategies to make her students well rounded and successful. Though already an accomplished piano and flute teacher in her own right, Michelle is always wanting to learn more and share ideas with others to give students the best possible experience.

Michelle has worked as the program coordinator for the Heart of the City Piano Program, secretary for Saskatchewan Angel Dresses, and board member for the Regina Eastview Daycare. She speaks French and English and enjoys enhancing her music classes with the French language as well as sign language. She loves going for walks, swimming, and spending time with her three children Roch, Adelle, and Lilah.
