このクラスで学べること

This challenge is not just a theoretical exercise, but a real-world opportunity to apply your music composition skills and explanatory writing. Activites align with the Next Generation and Common Core Standards for Literacy and Writing as well as the National Standards for Music Education of Theory & Composition under the proficient performance level. The experience philosophy is taught with International Baccalaurete with an emphasis on transdisciplinary, student choice, and critical analysis.

**IS THIS CLASS FOR ME?**
> Looking for real-world experience in creating compositions?
> Have a competitive spirit and want to try your hand at music composition?
> Looking to write your composition for ABRSM personal choice performance?
> Interested in learning how to write your melodies and work on a team in music production?

**EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES**
Build your expertise to create, evaluate, respond to, and connect musical products from creation and communication.

Your learning leader will:
> Evaluate your response against the identified criteria
> Award your performance
> Respond with evaluation communication in writing or video format

Develop your unique responses to the following essential questions:

> How do musicians make creative decisions?
> How do musicians improve the quality of their creative work?
> When is a performance judged ready to present?
> How do musicians make meaningful connections to creating, performing, and responding?
> How do the other arts, other disciplines, contexts and daily life inform creating, performing, and responding to music?

**HOW THE CLASS WORKS**
This one- time experience is a part of a continued experience where you can join 1-time competitions or larger week-long experiences. Use the challenge packet to craft responses to musical and thought prompts. The challenge criteria map not only give you the guidelines on how to craft your responses, but includes interactive video shorts to support inquiries.

**WHAT YOU WILL DO**
1. Read the evaluation criteria and decide whether to compete for the Bronze - Silver -or Gold!

2. Complete the prompt by assembling and organizing sounds according to the rules in the exercise where the music has been left out or unfinished.

3. Detail a written or video analysis responding to the analysis questions about your creative process.

This single puzzle challenge is estimated to take between 30-40 minutes (disclaimer: time estimations are also learner experience dependent; some students may complete the challenge faster while others may dive in more deeply and more time is needed) (CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.W.2 and Music Standard: Create & Present)

**CHOICE OF YOUR CHAMPIONSHIP**
What would a challenge be without awards?!

Each puzzle has a self-evaluation of submissions by leveled criteria:
Gold - Silver - Bronze.

In your entry, you will choose which level you are submitting, and your criteria will be reviewed by the learning leader at that expectation level. See the rubric with each puzzle for guidance on choosing your level.

The designed experience is a competition against yourself and creative development according to the set of teacher-developed criteria and then by your chosen submission level (self-assessed graded criteria). (STANDARD: Perform & Present)

**EVALUATION**
Once you have completed the response and decided which level you are competing for, SAVE and SUBMIT your puzzle response back through the OutSchool Classroom! Awards will be delivered virtually within 1-2 days.

Hi! I am Laura, and I am thrilled to meet your learner! I am a dynamic and energetic learning leader with 20+ years of experience in education and relationship development. My passion is helping others identify their goals and guiding them to a meaningful and realistic pathway toward mastery.

My approach to teaching is 3-pronged: 1) interdisciplinary, 2) student-driven, and 3) grounded in developing the complete profile of the learner. Using this approach, I am afforded the room for differentiation within my classes and instructional methods that has grown and adapted over situation, age range, and setting. Learner preference and success is at the highest priority when it comes to partnering with me as your educational guide.

To my craft of teaching, I bring
- strong skills as a strategic planner and organizer,
- an attentive and observant approach to make the plans personalized
- utilization of developed and forward thinking instructional methods that have been proved out across settings, subjects, and ages
- custom content that is planned with deliberate practice in mind
- efficiency at setting a learning plan tailored for you
- experience of instructing a wide age range and supporting whole families of a lifetime of learning
- An approach that incorporates one’s own lived experiences
- A plan to create new experiences that help learners develop a comprehensive profile

Content is unique and original as appropriate to the lesson with all content and activities mapping back to the National Standards for Music Education, the Royal Academy of Music Syllabi, or the appropriate related cross-curricular content skill list. There are classes where standardized and reviewed material is used for guidance, such as in the case of private instrument study or specific exam preparation study. My experience across age ranges from preschool to adult allows me to set plans that begin with the end in mind; therefore, the learner profile and goals are a cornerstone of how I teach. Learner plans and class recaps are made available for options of learning pathways that result in deliberate and focused independent experiences outside of the teacher instruction. Through my class experience offering, I work to foster a growth mindset and support integrity and personal accountability. I approach this with positivity and an open mind while delivering feedback that helps learners answer the essential question, “How do I grow more?”

I have spent a lifetime perfecting my instructional leadership and entrepreneurship. From a young age I was instructing youth performance practice in sports and music, both private, group, and elite performance. After achieving my teaching certificate in music education, I took on the responsibilities as a music director for over 10 years serving public and private school systems throughout the Eastern United States (rural, suburban, and urban environments). Each teaching experience offered new challenges where I developed my leadership and business acumen. Some programs needed grant writing, others needed a non-profit to manage the demand, others needed a regional organization to support elite and competitive student performance and evaluations for teachers as standards and expectations grew more specific. As a result of my success in business operations, I began a career in business development and program management where I found success in sales, public speaking, writing and delivering programs and supporting subject matter expertise in the field of public safety and emergency management.

My educational journey is a testament to my commitment to continuous learning. I hold a master's degree in music from the University of Tennessee and a bachelor's in music from Ohio University. My learning doesn't stop there. I have attained multiple professional certificates that keep me visionary and forward-thinking with my ideas.

When I am not working with learners online, you can find me on the tennis court, exploring the world, or supporting my daughter as she grows in her lifelong endeavors. My active lifestyle has made me an avid experience collector of incredible adventures.

I would be delighted to guide your learner to become a connected thinker and expert performer on their journey to creating the world they want to enjoy.
