In fact, a recent study with 562 learners showed that standardized math scores significantly increased after learning multiplication facts using this unique strategy. ⚠️Knowing multiplication facts fluently with quick recall is ESSENTIAL for performing multi-digit multiplication and division, operations with fractions and decimals and for success in higher level mathematics such as algebra in the upper grades.⚠️

After using this strategy:

In this class, learners associate the numbers with the characters in a story. For example, to teach 4x4, the story tells about Bart who loves to go hang gliding and can't wait until he turns 16 so he can get his driver's license and drive his 4 x 4. Learners can easily remember 4x4 once the story is learned!  We use cartoons and stories for all the difficult facts: 3s, 4s, 6s, 7s and 8s. Other tricks are used to teach the easier facts: 1s, 2s, 5s, 9s, 10s and 11s. Kids love these tricks and stories and will never forgot "You have to be 16 to drive a 4 x 4, so 4x4=16."

Class Format:
5 minutes: Welcome and Build Community
5 minutes: Introduce the facts we will be learning that day
15 minutes: Listen to the story that goes with each fact; learn tips, tricks and strategies for memorizing
•	Students follow along while they hear the storyteller.
•	Lively animation makes the number characters come alive.
•	Each story is followed by a music video with a catchy song.
•	Learners make a simple sketch in their notebook of the characters/story for each fact.
•	Interactive game on Blooket to engage the learner while testing recall.
5 minutes: Repeat the Facts, Review, Wrap Up


*Leaves of Learning Academy is an organization on Outschool with about 18 teachers. Occasionally, the teacher for this class may not be able to teach and a substitute teacher from the organization will take her place. Only teachers trained to teach this class will serve as a possible substitute for the class. A message will be posted in the Outschool classroom before the class takes place in the event a substitute will be teaching. ✅If your learner misses a class meeting, you are not entitled to a refund. Your teacher may, however, transfer your learner to another available section, or provide a class recording, at their discretion.
✅If your learner has not joined the meeting 10 minutes after the class’s start time, the meeting may be cancelled, at the teacher’s discretion. This is considered a missed meeting and you are not entitled to a refund.
✅Refunds are not guaranteed in the event that your learner misses a past or future class meeting due to a schedule conflict, and will depend on the class-specific refund policy.
✅If your learner’s meeting time changes because of daylight saving time starting or ending for several world regions, you are not entitled to a refund if they’re unable to attend. Please review your learner’s schedule ahead of time to ensure you know when classes are meeting.
