このクラスで学べること

I am excited to offer its new level one class in piano instruction that uses the Piano Adventures Level 1 Popular Repertoire book. This book is part of the supplementary materials that compliments the Level 1 lesson book very well. This class is not a requirement but is highly suggested as an extra practice after Piano Classes #6 and #7. This class uses the Faber Piano Adventures Level 1 Popular Repertoire book. I feel that this class will be a fun way for students to review skills they were taught in the Level 1 lesson book before moving to the new skills offered in the Level 2A materials. This class offers well known songs that are written on the appropriate level for the students. It also offers activities that help to solidify the musical skills for each of the skills being taught.

Each week, students will be given an opportunity to play at least one solo in class if they wish. I never require students to play solos, but I do feel that these are an important part of the musical process. My main focus is to encourage students to do the best that they can do and hopefully give them the confidence that they need to be successful. I am a patient and understanding teacher, answering any questions that the students may have about the musical skills being taught. Each will students will directed to learn at least one new song to go along with the musical concept for that week. Additional activities will be uploaded from time to time that will need to be printed out in order to the students to have a variety of of opportunities to practice their new skills. I encourage students to send videos of themselves playing the songs they are learning. This is an opportunity for students to receive one-on-one feedback to help strengthen their playing. Videos are also included in each week’s class notes (at the conclusion of the class meeting each week) that “reteach” the skills in each song. Students are encouraged to watch these between class meetings to practice what they have learned.

The skills listed below will be taught each week:

Week 1- This is an introductory week when the students will have an opportunity to share what they already know about music.
Questions will be asked through It the class to make sure that all students know the basic skills needed at this level of
learning. “Legato” and “ staccato” playing will be reviewed and 1st and 2nd endings will be introduced.

Week 2- This week, students will learn about the musical “upbeat”. Students will also learn to counts the beats in a measure.
They will practice naming notes on the staff as well as naming other musical symbols.

Week 3- This week, students will learn about the “half rest” and the “whole rest”. They will also review “tied notes”.

Week 4- This week, students will learn about musical “sharps”. They will also continue reviewing and drawing notes on the staff.

Week 5- This week, the student will review the skills they have learned so far. They will continue writing counts under notes in each measure.

Week 6- This week, students will learn about musical “flats”. They will review “repeats” and “1st and 2nd endings”.

Week 7- This week, students will review flats and will practice using them in a variety of activities.

Week 8- This week, students will learn about the “fermata”. “Flats” and “sharps” will be reviewed. Review activities will be added to make sure they remember all of the skills that have been taught in this class.
