This class is an extensive multi-day review session for 5th-grade English Language Arts (ELA) and will run on Fridays at 1pm EST  and 5pm EST from February 9th to June 7th, with live sessions according to the schedule below.

🔖Week 1: Reading Comprehension and Fluency
Dates:  Friday, February 9th.
Objective: Improve reading comprehension and fluency.
Activities: Read and discuss excerpts from "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." Focus on understanding characters, plot, and fluency in reading.

🔖Week 2: Week Poetry Reading and Analysis
Dates: Friday, February 16th.
Objective: Introduce poetry and enhance analytical skills.
Activities: Read and analyze Shel Silverstein's "Where the Sidewalk Ends." Identify poetic devices such as rhyme, rhythm, and imagery.

🔖Week 3: Figurative Language - Poetic/Literary Devices
Dates: Friday, February 23rd.
Objective: Understand and identify figurative language.
Activities: Explore Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken." Identify metaphors, similes, and other poetic devices.

🔖Week 4: Proofreading: Editing and Revision
Dates:  Friday, March 1st.
Objective: Develop proofreading and editing skills.
Activities: Provide a short passage with errors from "The Owl and the Pussy-Cat" for students to identify and correct.

🔖Week 5: Uplevelling Descriptive Writing
Dates: Friday, March 8th.
Objective: Enhance descriptive writing skills.
Activities: Read excerpts from "The Secret Garden" and discuss how the author uses descriptive language. Students practice adding details to their own writing.

🔖Week 6: Fronted Adverbials
Dates:  Friday, March 15th.
Objective: Understand and use fronted adverbials in writing. Activities: Analyze examples in poetry and prose. Students incorporate fronted adverbials into their descriptive writing.

🔖Week 7: Playscript Writing
Dates: Friday, March 22nd.
Objective: Introduce the structure and format of playscripts.
Activities: Read and discuss a short playscript. Students work in groups to write and perform their own short plays.

🔖Week 8: Shades of Meaning (Contextual Meanings & Word Choice)
Dates:  March 29th.
Objective: Explore nuances in word meanings.
Activities: Analyze Robert Louis Stevenson's poem "The Swing" for shades of meaning. Students choose synonyms to convey subtle differences in meaning.

🔖Week 9: The Features of Newspaper Articles
Dates: Friday, April 12th.
Objective: Understand the features of newspaper articles.
Activities: Analyze examples of newspaper articles. Identify headline structures, leads, and key features.

🔖Week 10: Managing Shifts Between Levels of Formality
Dates: Friday, April 19th.
Objective: Learn to manage shifts between levels of formality in writing.
Activities: Explore examples of writing with varying levels of formality. Practice shifting between formal and informal tones.

🔖Week 11: Technicality of Sentences (Structure & Features, e.g., Expanded Noun Phrases)
Dates: Friday, April 26th.
Objective: Understand the technicalities of sentence structure.
Activities: Focus on features like expanded noun phrases. Analyze sentences for technical aspects.

🔖Week 12: Discursive Writing
Dates: Friday, May 3rd.
Objective: Explore discursive writing techniques.
Activities: Analyze samples of discursive writing. Practice organizing and presenting arguments.

🔖Week 13: Cohesion in Writing
Dates: Friday, May 10th.
Objective: Enhance cohesion in writing.
Activities: Explore methods for creating cohesive writing. Practice using transition words and phrases.

🔖Week 14: Short Burst Creative Writing Across Genres
Dates: Friday, May 17th.
Objective: Engage in short burst creative writing across various genres.
Activities: Students participate in quick creative writing exercises spanning different genres.

🔖Week 15: 5th Grade Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar
Dates:  Friday, May 24th.
Objective: Review 5th-grade spelling, punctuation, and grammar rules.
Activities: Focus on common spelling, punctuation, and grammar challenges. Practice through exercises.

🔖Week 16: How to Correctly Use the 'Passive'; How to Use Semi-Colons, Colons, and Dashes Correctly
Dates:  Friday, May 31st.
Objective: Understand correct usage of the passive voice; Learn proper use of semi-colons, colons, and dashes.
Activities: Discuss examples and practice using the passive voice and punctuation marks.

🔖Week 17: Review and Wrap-Up
Dates: Friday, June 7th.
Objective: Review key concepts and skills covered during the semester.
Activities: Engage in a comprehensive review. Answer questions and provide additional assistance.
