Students will gain insight into the highly competitive college admissions process, understanding that their college rejection has nothing to do with a lack of academic ability, does not dictate their self-worth, and has no final say in their future career success.
I am and Independent College Consultant and have my own college consulting business. I have been advising students on the college application and transition process since 2014 and walked alongside students through their journey of college acceptance and rejection. I've worked with students transitioning to new educational environments (including high school to college and one educational culture to another) since 2010. I hold an Independent Education Consultant certificate, and I'm an Associate Member of the Independent Education Consultant Association. I hold a BA degree in Sociology, minors in Spanish and English along with a MA degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. I've taught general education English courses to freshmen at a university, worked as an advisor at a university, and worked with students to improve grades after a disappointing first semester in college. Helping students get through the application process with less stress and successfully transition to college is my passion.

An optional and very insightful resource in the form of a youtube video is available after the third meeting to offer students more insight and reflection. The video has a tiny section that may be triggering for some students. Every parent will be sent the resource ahead of time in order to decide if they'd like me to share this resource with their student or not. It will not be sent to the student unless the parent responds via message and agrees. Parents are encouraged to reach out to the teacher with any questions about the course or information about their child's situation they feel the teacher should be aware of. This course is not a counseling session. This course hopes to expand perspective through data, adult real-world experiences, and new approaches to thinking. (The refund policy of this class will be strictly followed, so please read the course description carefully and feel free to ask any questions prior to enrollment.)
Students will read articles from reputable sources, such as the Washington Post, Boston Magazine, Washington Monthly, New York Times, and US News & World Report. No subscription is needed to view article links.
MY SCHEDULE: My 'weekend' is usually Monday - Tuesday, but can vary based on my college visit/travel schedule. I typically am available only afternoons and evenings as well. Therefore I may not respond to messages received beginning Sunday evening...
