このクラスで学べること
Welcome to a fun writing summer camp! In this course, learners will learn how to write a descriptive story about a monster they will create. They will also draw their monster to show how they have described it. The teacher will check for grammar, spelling and proper English skills in their rough drafts. She will also provide examples in class and a rubric for learners to see what the expectations are for their writing and drawing. Learners will be shown examples on a presentation, as well as other specific art/writing examples. Learners will be shown the proper way to write a story from the first paragraph to the concluding paragraph. They will also see websites to help them with wording; such as a thesaurus. This class will be a fun environment where learners will be able to interact with the teacher, as well as each other. At the end of the week, they will have written a well thought out story about a monster that they have created on their own. Day 1 -- Introduction to descriptive writing. Short lecture with a presentation to show students about writing descriptively. The teacher will send a package to each student prior to class with a Venn Diagram, lesson breakdown and rubric. Students will begin to fill in what their monster might look by describing it in detail on the diagram and begin working on their story and art. We will go over the details of the rubric and what is expected in our class. Explain the homework assignment. Day 2 -- Presentation showing the rubric for both the drawing and writing. Short lecture on writing/drawing. We will also discuss the elements of writing. I will answer any questions the students have from the day before or any homework they have completed. Learners will continue to work on gathering their thoughts and ideas for what their story will be about and the elements it will include. We will learn about adjectives and how they are important in descriptive writing. Explain the homework for the day. Day 3 -- Learners will come to class prepared to discuss what the basis of their story is about. They will be ready to share the main elements of the story. We will talk about what makes a good story. There will be a short lecture and presentation about what makes a good writer. We will discuss the homework for the night. Day 4 FINAL DAY! -- At this point, learners should have completed and edited their final draft. Today, they will ask any final questions they may have for the teacher and will be given approximately 15-20 minutes to clean up any thoughts or complete their project. Learners will have the final 15-20 minutes of class to share their story and art!
学習到達目標
Learners will learn the basics of writing a descriptive story. This will be a fun writing activity that will take place for 50-minutes over the course of 4 days.
They will learn how to use conventions and word choice -- How do we decide the best words to use in a descriptive story? They will be introduced to a variety of adjectives and the best way to use these words while describing a noun.
They will learn how to use a Venn Diagram/how to organize their thoughts and notes.
Learners will also receive a rubric to help guide them in the drawing process. Students will draw a monster that looks like everything they have described in their writing.
They will learn the proper way to write a rough draft after outlining their ideas. The teacher will show them how to make changes throughout the writing before typing their final copy.
Learners will use their rough draft to help guide them in typing a final copy to turn in to the teacher. They will have a rubric to show them what the teacher will be looking for in their writings.

Hello! My name is Lisa and I have been a certified teacher for 15+ years! I have a Bachelor of Arts degree, as well as a Master of Science in Education degree. I am currently a teacher in Ontario, Canada and I have taught students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. I am a Math and English Language Learner Specialist and I have also taken many courses in Special Education. I have received my TEFL certificate and teach English to a variety of students. I have spent the last 5 years working as a teacher for VIPKid and have experience working one-on-one with students learning to speak English.
Here, at OutSchool, I will be teaching Math, Literacy and ESL classes. I have a passion for teaching and love when children become excited about learning! I want my students to feel comfortable in the classroom and I realize that every student has a different learning strategy. I understand that everyone learns differently and I am always here for questions before and after class. I love to have students answer questions during classes and will give each student that wishes an opportunity to participate.
In my classroom, I use a variety of manipulatives and products that will make learning fun. I use Google Slides, videos, whiteboards, books and other learning tools to keep classes interesting! I have spent the last 15 years of my teaching career in the classroom, as well as online. I believe that I can foster critical thinking and problem-solving strategies while facilitating the acquisition of life-long learning skills.
**Some fun facts about me** I am originally from the United States and served in the U. S. Navy before becoming a teacher. In late 2019 and early 2020, I spent some of my time homeschooling our 16 year old daughter while we traveled to Europe. In my spare time, I like to travel, read, listen to music and crochet, as well as spend lots of quality time with my husband and our children. I look forward to seeing your child(ren) in my classroom!
Thank you,
Teacher Lisa
