This course will cover the Middle School NGSS Earth Science Standards in a hands-on and engaging way! Seed and Stem Learning Center believes that students learn science best through exploration and hands-on activities. Real-world problems, situations, and problem-based learning will drive student inquiry throughout this course. Students will have multiple opportunities to interact with other students and the instructor throughout this course in order to get the most out of their complete online experience. Students will have multiple performance assessments throughout the course in order to assess their understanding in addition to problem-based learning projects and experiments. The following topics will be covered during this semester-long course: Unit 5: Weather & Climate Week 1: Weather Models Week 2: Air Masses Week 3: Weather vs. Climate Week 4: Global Warming Unit 6: Weathering and Erosion Week 5: Weathering, Erosion, and Deposition Week 6: River Erosion and Deposition Week 7: Landforms and Slow Change Week 8: Rapid Changes to Earth Unit 7: Natural Resources and Human Impact Week 9: Natural Resources Week 10: Distribution of Natural Resources Week 11: Pollution Week 12: Global Warming and Evidence for Climate Change Unit 8: Earth, Moon, and Celestial Cycles Week 13: Seasons and Earth’s Tilt Week 14: Lunar Phases Week 15: Solar and Lunar Eclipses Week 16L Tidal Cycles Due to the fact that this is a flexible course, students who are already taking Earth Science can enroll for additional support and practice. Homeschooled students can enroll for a complete Earth Science curriculum. Videos will be uploaded weekly along with practice assignments, homework, and additional resources. Students will use the Outschool classroom to access all materials and homework. The weekly schedule will include the following: Monday: Pre-Recorded video lesson with instruction of the concept. Students will be given an assignment to complete by the end of the week. Tuesday-Thursday: Students will work on their assignments on their own. They can message their instructor for additional assistance during this time. Friday: Students will turn in their assignment to be graded by the instructor. Students will have the opportunity to engage with one another through platforms such as Flipgrid and discussions on the Outschool Classroom. Students will participate in engaging and interactive platforms such as Kahoot and Nearpod in order for me to accurately assess.

Welcome to Seed and Stem Learning Center by Bailey Nelson and Kenneth Kirk!
As a prior public school teacher, Bailey experienced the positive difference that scientific inquiry can have on students. Kenneth, who received his Bachelor's of Business Degree in Economics, found a passion in educating young students the improtance of financial literacy and business education. Bailey and Ken used this inspiration to create a program that allows students to connect across the globe through quality and inclusive education.
Although students take classes virtually, they will be inspired through hands-on and real-world applications and problems. Through our engaging courses, students will develop (or enhance) their love of all subjects by connecting to real-life applications and problems.
Teachers and tutors are all vetted through a rigorous process that focuses on scientific inquiry, problem-based learning, and hands-on pedagogy. Teachers come from a variety of backgrounds including education, economics, engineering, and computer science.
Course Policies:
*Students must provide a camera check at the beginning of class to ensure safety for all learners unless verified by Outschool.
*Ongoing classes are charged on a weekly basis. Prorated refunds based on days attended during the week will not be provided. All class recordings and materials are provided if your learner misses class.
*The Outschool classroom is for learner communication. If you would like to contact the teacher of your learner, please use the teacher communication tab.
*To hold a spot for charter school payments please message us and we will reserve a spot*
