In this ongoing class learners will use graphics from Minecraft to help learn Common Core math for early elementary. This class will cover addition, subtraction, geometry, reading charts and graphs, telling time, counting money, and more! Each class will focus on one of the topics listed. Week of August 30th: Addition by Grouping along with a fun Mystery Message using Addition and Subtraction Week of September 6th: Skip Counting and Place Value (Tens and Ones) Week of September 13th:...
Learners will be able to use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem. Students will be able to regroup Learners will understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones. Students will be able to count within 1000; skip-count by 2s, 3s, 5s, 10s, and 100s. Learners will Compare two three-digit numbers based on meanings of the hundreds, tens, and ones digits, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons. Students will be able to tell and write time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest five minutes, using a.m. and p.m. Students can measure to determine how much longer one object is than another. Learners will solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately. Example: If you have 2 dimes and 3 pennies, how many cents do you have? Students can use a picture graph and a bar graph (with single-unit scale) to represent a data set with up to four categories. Solve simple put-together, take-apart, and compare problems1 using information presented in a bar graph.
Learners will need a device that they can annotate on in zoom. For more information on this please follow the link: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115005706806-Using-annotation-tools-on-a-shared-screen-or-whiteboard
