One time-honored tradition of an artists' training is that of the apprentice copying their master's work. This practice is common even today; we will continue in this method by sketching the paintings and drawings of famous artists together during class! Each week, students will be introduced to a classical artist's portrait or figurative work. We'll talk a little about the artist's life; then students will follow along as I demonstrate drawing techniques and strategies. Skills we will...
Students will practice drawing proportionate human figures, from observation. Drawing techniques including shading, texture, and adding backgrounds will also be demonstrated. Lessons will emphasize naturalism and the unity of the figures we draw.
