Upon completion of this course learners will be able to: - Identify the chemical composition of sea water - Describe how the properties of water relate to ocean circulation and the sustainability of life in the ocean. - Describe the mechanisms responsible for the formation of waves and tides. - Identify the major ocean basins and describe how plate tectonics is responsible for it's features today. - Describe the global ocean circulation and how it relates to Earth's climate moderation. - Identify examples of marine ecological relationship. - Describe how abiotic and biotic factors affect marine life. - Explain important nutrient cycles and their importance to marine ecosystems. - Evaluate how nutrient cycle contributes to the health of coastal ecosystems. - Identify technological changes through time that have allowed humans to explore the deep oceans. - Identify ways in which human activity contributes to aquatic pollution. - Evaluate current fisheries management practices. - Synthesize strategies to mitigate the negative effects of the human fisheries industry.
Marine and environmental science have been passionate pursuits of mine since childhood. I feel that this passion, combined with my education and extensive experiencing developing and delivering quality educational programs, will foster a community of learners who care about our oceans and environment. Students will be assessed using weekly 1) Nearpod quizzes posted to the classroom (40% of the cumulative grade) 2) Weekly discussion board assignments (20% of the cumulative grade) and semester project (40% of the cumulative grade). The rubric for the project will be posted after the first two weeks of class. Weekly instructor feed back and quiz raw scores will be submitted to students via Outschool discussion board and private learner messaging. Assessment for the course can be completed with feedback up to one month after the course is completed.成績が提供されます
