In this one time class students will learn about Canada's official symbols. The beaver, the maple tree, and the game of hockey are three of these national emblems. We will learn when, and why each symbol was chosen to represent the country. Students will be provided a chart of the symbols to fill out as we go. Using powerpoint, videos, discussion, and activities we will discover the origins of each of the symbols that have been formally adopted by the Government of Canada. There are many additional Canadian icons students may be familiar with, that we will touch on as well.

Students will learn about the nine official symbols of the country of Canada. They will be able to identify each symbol and they will understand why each symbol is important to the country of Canada.

Pdf handouts will be available in the classroom prior to class. Students will need a glue stick or school glue to complete the activity.
