💥 For more scheduled classes, please scroll down to “Show Alternative Times.” In this two-week course, connoisseurs of ancient Egypt will learn what ancient Egyptian rooms looked like - for the rich and poor - and what's out there in shops, online and maybe in their own house that they can turn into ancient Egyptian decor. Week 1Lesson 1Find Space For Your Egyptian RoomLook at different ancient Egyptian rooms - bedrooms, kitchens, and spaces for entertaining - through artwork, models and exhibits. Then: 1. Ask permission from your parents or caretakers to change your room or any other space in your home. 2. Think about the places besides bedrooms you can "Egytomize." 3. Decide how you'll use your Egyptiroom - just for show, as a getaway, a place for friends. 3. Find Egyptian-style drapes, wallpaper and tapestries.Week 2Lesson 2Fill Your Space!See how the ancient Egyptians decorated their rooms with tables, beds, murals, pottery and trunks. Then: 1. Where you can find reasonably priced Egyptian-style statuettes from museum shops and online. 2. How you can make things yourself from old tables and trunks and similar finds in antique shops. 3. How you don't need objects from Egypt to make them look Egyptian. 4. Warning: be careful about anything claimed as authentic ancient Egyptian objects.
- * Use space creatively. * Discover they can use the items they find, like baskets, for their clothes just as the ancient Egyptians did. * Tell the difference between mere Egyptomania nik- knacks and authentic-looking antiquities.
I hold a Diploma in Egyptology from Oxford College in England and a Certificate of Museum Studies from Harvard University. I’ve been to Egypt three times on personalized, educational tours. I've been captivated by ancient Egypt since I was 10 years old. And I feel it's my destiny to share my enthusiasm for and expertise on this beautiful and brilliant 5000-year-old civilization with all of you. I hope to see you soon in this class. I think you'll agree that The Egyptian Room is an attractive, fun and inspiring place to learn. And, please, if you like, call me Ms. Sennuwy - my chosen ancient Egyptian name.
