In this one-time class, we will make colorful paper flowers together starting from a cardboard base. Students will learn how to shape and cut petals from cardstock, attach them with hot glue to a round cardboard base, and add detail to create a variety of different types of flowers -- or to invent their own kinds of flowers! I will demonstrate a number of different techniques for cutting petals, leaves, and the pistils & stamen of the flower, and then we will use the remaining class time to...
Students will learn how to design and assemble various types of paper flowers. We'll go over various cutting and curling techniques to create different types of flowers while also talking about the correct terms for parts of a flower (petals, stamen, etc.). We'll talk about complimentary and contrasting colors, and learners will be encouraged to design their own types of flowers.
For this class learners will need: -- cardstock in a variety of colors (you're welcome to use whatever colors you like, though we will use black for the inner part of the flowers. Regular paper will work, but cardstock tends to last longer and be easier to use with the hot glue) -- scissors, for cutting the paper -- a hot glue gun and a few glue sticks (hot glue works best as glue or glue sticks won't hold the cardstock together) -- cardboard cut into small circles to use as the base of the flower -- a pencil, for curling paper -- a flat place to work on this project
