Let's make an animated mini movie with Scratch. This class requires no previous coding experience although if the learner is already familiar with this programming language, they will have the benefit of focusing more in story development and dialogue. *Please note that some classes are taught in a single week, 3 x per week. Other classes are taught once a week for 3 weeks. You are able to choose the format that fits you better. * The class size is purposely kept small (no more than 6 learners) so that everyone can have lots of one on one attention. Fist class: Getting Acquainted. We will use the first day of this fun Scratch camp to go over the basics. I will use an interactive presentation method to show students how to create a first character (sprite), design a background, and use simple programming commands. The learners will then have time for hands-on practice. I will have look at each learner's progress and address individual questions. We will then reconvene together and leaners can keep on practicing while guided by me. Learners will have a take-home assignment where they customize a scene, starting from a general outline that I will give them. That scene will become their take-away project. Second class: Work on The Story. Learners will share with the class a brief description of the scene they plan to make for their movie or story. I will help them by giving them some general outlines that they can customize. They will be asked to identify a beginning, middle and end of the scene, as well as to define one or two characters that will be in it. Afterwards, the learner's will work on creating a project with that scene. I will have a short presentation on further things they will need in order to complete that scene and then there will be time for hands-on practice by each of the leaners. Learners will have a chance to share their screen so I can provide feedback and help. Third class: It's a Wrap! Our last class will be about wrapping up our coding project: A short, animated movie (1 to 2 minutes long). (May be longer and richer for students who already are familiar with Scratch prior to starting our class). At the end, learners can participate in a "screening" showing their brand new animated movie to the rest of the group! #osff
学習到達目標
Students will become familiar with the coding language Scratch, be able to program simple moves and sounds, create characters (sprites) and add simple dialogue to a scene in order to produce an animated mini-movie.

受講に必要なもの
Students will need a FREE Scratch account prior to starting the class. It takes only a few seconds to set up and can be done easily by going to https://scratch.mit.edu/ Students must have the ability to type and use the keyboard with enough proficiency to type dialogue and other items. It would be preferable if the student would have access to a separate device so that they can follow the class on one device and use the other one to work on their coding/ movie project. If that is not possible, students could use a laptop and learn how to use a split screen so they can follow both at the same time. For younger students, parent might need to be available for the first 15 minutes of class in order to get them setup and logged into their Scratch account.

Teaching and mentoring are my passion. I like to provide interactive and motivating, learning experiences. My learners have a chance to express themselves and connect with their peers in class. I like to start my classes with an easy ice breaker where leaners have an opportunity to introduce themselves and say something about themselves. For my social groups, I actively help learners connect with peers during class, by creating an environment where asking questions and talking with each other is welcome at the beginning of class. If timing allows, I also give this outlet at the end of class where learners can engage in peer conversation about the subject of the class. This simple thing leads to a feeling of connectedness and, frankly, to a fun learning environment.
I am passionate about teaching Spanish, math, entrepreneurship, financial skills, and social skills. My favorite moments are when I can see "the light go on" in a young leaner's head. The moment you can tell they just "got" that new concept.
When it comes to teaching Spanish, I believe there is a certain magic in the process. It is magical to see someone who knew nothing about that language and over time they keep learning words and improving their pronunciation little by little until one day you find yourself thinking "wow, they are becoming so proficient now!" I am a native speaker that can speak with a neutral accent and help learners also distinguish between different dialects. I like using the Comprehensive Input (CI) approach. I provide different activities to make my classes interactive and engaging.
For the past 12 years, I have been a child-centered educator. I have taught individual and group classes both in person and online. I have taught and tutored math and ELA at the elementary school and middle school levels. I served as president of MOMS Club, Int’l (local chapter), actively participated in the teaching rotation of my local homeschool co-op, helped coordinate a kids’ book club for over 5 years, volunteered with my local scouts pack, and worked as a teacher for a large homeschool organization in person. As a side note, I was a homeschool mom for 10 years.
Interesting miscellaneous facts about me: I love to travel. I also love to perform and there was a time I did it professionally. I once won a Best Actress Award at a regional theater festival. At some point, with a group of actor friends, we pitched a pilot (which we co-wrote and performed in). The show got picked up and we had so much fun with it! I have had 2 dogs, 5 fishes, and 5 cats (not all at the same time!)
