In this expanded version of the popular One-Time Sylvester & the Magic Pebble class, students will have more time to go through the writer's workshop process of creating their stories and identifying key story elements.

In class one, we'll read and discuss the book "Sylvester and the Magic Pebble," by William Steig and complete a chart to identify the key elements from the story.

In class two, I'll support students in creating an "idea" page to help them capture their ideas and plans for their story following the key elements they identified in the story of Sylvester and his magic pebble. This is where the magic begins! Then students will have the opportunity to take their ideas and turn them into sentences to begin writing their first draft.

In class three, we'll have a mini-lesson to emphasize the problem and solution story elements by creating an illustration for each to accompany their own story. If needed, students will also have the opportunity to continue working on their first drafts, while sharing their ideas with their classmates!

In class five, we'll practice our editing skills with an editing checklist and other practical tools for helping students make their stories the best they can be!

In between classes five and six students will be responsible for copying their final draft onto a fresh page, to share in the final class with our Writing Celebration! Students will bring their final draft to class to share with all of us.

This is an excellent opportunity for students to experience the magic of the empowering feeling that comes from sharing your work with others, as well as an opportunity to practice offering kind compliments to support their fellow writers and classmates.

This class is a perfect step-by-step format for any students who would like more time to talk about, share, and play with their writing ideas as they go through the process of creating a magnificent story of their own!

We'll also play with some illustrations along the way as time allows so that students get the joy of completion that comes with finishing a story that makes them feel proud of their growing skills as writers!

Hope to see you there, and I can't wait to hear about the story you'll create with YOUR magic pebble!

Hi! My name is Caitlin Sanders, and I love teaching. :) Kids are my favorite people and it is a joy to connect with them in teaching & learning each day.

**Starting Jan. 2nd, 2024, I'll be teaching online full-time so I won't have as many class times available. I will still make time in my schedule to teach classes on Saturday mornings and some weekday evenings as I'm able to -- so feel free to reach out with any requests! I'll be happy to try to accommodate you!**

I have a passion for storytelling and love to combine stories, nature, and writing into my thematic and engaging classes.

I believe every child has a unique perspective and a unique voice that deserves to be heard. In my classes I help students uncover this through reading stories and by supporting them in writing their own.

I also love nature and so I often incorporate nature into my classes as well. :) Nature has a magical way of helping us to connect more deeply with ourselves and with those around us.

I have a compassionate approach to teaching and learning...and, to life! This comes across in my classes as patience, a genuine caring, and a dedication to supporting each student in a way that builds their confidence and unique sense of self so they can shine and bring their truest, most authentic selves and experiences to the world.

I truly care about every child I teach. I love using music to enhance my classes, and encourage students to discover and express their own creativity.

I grew up in Iowa City, IA and currently live in Portland, OR. I have an adorable little dog I fell in love with when I went to the shelter looking for a big dog. Turns out, I was destined for this cute little ten pound guy instead! :) We enjoy training and learning new tricks, as well as peaceful, awe-inspiring walks through the woods where we have many adventures on the trail!

The following quotation by Holocaust survivor Jay Sommer was at the the heart of my mission as a public school teacher and I continue to carry it forward in everything I do:

"Inspiring students with a sense of their own worth gives them the confidence to express themselves more freely, to explore and learn through their mistakes, and to regard learning as an adventure."

It is such a joy to now bring that passion and enthusiasm to connect with students online. :)

I'd love to work with your child to inspire them with a sense of their own confidence and creativity, abundance and longevity in the world. I believe your child deserves the very best, always.
