このクラスで学べること

Watercolors are a lot of fun for young children to explore. In this ongoing class, your young artist will get to explore all the wonders that watercolour has to offer and let their imagination soar along the way. This class is more about the process and where that leads, as opposed to what the end product should be.

Each week I will introduce a method or technique at the beginning of class. Once the learners are familiar with the new method, they will get to let their imagination soar by creating their own painting using what was shown at the start of class. Maybe they will just do a bunch of lines or circles. Maybe they will paint a bear or a caterpillar. Whatever they paint, it will be up to them.

At the start of each class students will be greeted and able to share something about themselves or what they love about painting. I will then talk about and demonstrate that week's new technique or method. After demonstrating, the learners will be able to create their own paintings using that method. If they are unsure as to what to paint or need a jumping-off point, they are welcome to follow along with me as I also practice the technique. As I mentioned earlier, this is about the process and not the end product. At the end of class, each learner will have a chance to share their creation with the class if they choose to.

Areas that we will be exploring in class are dry-on-wet vs. wet-on-wet, wax resistance, using additives such as salt, mixing colors, and so on.

Schedule:
Week of June 6: wax resistance
Week of June 13: dry-on-wet and wet-on-wet
Week of June 20: painting with Crayola markers
Week of June 27: using a sponge
Week of July 4: adding salt

Hi everyone! I am a graduate of Western Washington University with a B.A. in English and a minor in art history. I grew up in Washington State but have lived out on the east coast for most of my adult life. I have been a nanny, homework coach, and tutor for over 20 years. I love working with younger children and teens to help them realize the potential within. I work with kids ages 4 to 18 in reading, reading comprehension, reading remediation, grammar, language arts, elementary/middle school math, pre-algebra, organizational/study skills, HSPT, and ISEE exams.

Whenever I work with a child, whether it's in academics, art/crafting, or baking, I meet the child where they are and build them up from there; I am patient, kind, and understanding. Every child must know that a mistake is not a bad thing, just one step on the path to learning something new and that these steps are the building blocks of understanding.

During my free time, I love to paint, craft, and bake! I have been creating art and crafts for the last ten-plus years and selling them at local shows. I make 3-D paper flowers, burlap wreaths, stamped coasters, work with alcohol inks, fluid painting, watercolor painting, decoupage, and bookbinding. I hope to share all of these with the learners on Outschool!

Finally, I love to bake and cook! I used to sell my bread at a local farmers' market when I lived in Washington State. I am continually trying a new recipe or perfecting one of my own to share with everyone. When I was a nanny, baking and cooking were two of my favorite things to do with the kids. I taught them to bake cookies, bread, breakfast, and even how to roast a chicken.

Thank you for allowing me to work with your children and helping them realize they can do whatever they set their minds to. The only limits they have are the ones they place on themselves.
