This ongoing class will cycle through many topics including the life and death of stars, planets and their smaller cousins (the minor planets), nebulae, galaxies, and my personal favourite black holes. While each class is a stand alone lesson looking at a different aspect of the current topic, it will not require knowledge from previous classes, and lessons do not build on one another. Learners will gain more of an understanding of our universe, and the physics that runs it.
I am an astronomer who loves to talk about science and space. My passion for science started as a kid, and continued right through to a PhD, so that I am now a Doctor of Astronomy. I worked as a research astronomer for many years as well, and spent time using large international telescopes including the Gemini telescopes in Hawaii and Chile, and the Hubble telescope in space. When it comes to communication this knowledge, I also wanted to learn more. This interest in teaching & learning, obtaining a Postgraduate Certificate in Education.

The external resources listed here are to give you some great resources for additional information and hand on activities. No accounts are required to access this information and they are not required learning for the course. I have only included information from highly recognised space agencies that provided sound scientific activities that are fun to explore. These include NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration) for both grade K-4 and 5-8, the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and the European Space Agency (ESA). Each of these four links provide you with a wealth of scientifically sounds resources, made by scientists for kids. Feel free to explore and think up more questions to ask an astronomer, in Let's Talk Space.
Hi there, I am Jeanette, well actually that Doctor Jeanette, and I am an astronomer who loves to talk about science and space. I followed my passions for science right up to the highest levels in school, so that I can now call myself a Doctor...
