In this on-going course, students will learn the difference between positive and negative self-talk. Speaking to ourselves in a positive manner has the potential to change our entire day, week, month, and year. I love writing and practicing positive affirmations for both myself and my children. In this class, I get to share that passion with you! In each meeting, we will fill out positive statements and share them with the class. In addition, we will talk each meeting about how we can apply the positive affirmation in our life, including how and when to practice. In the first five weeks of meeting, the schedule will be as follows: Week of February 21 - I am __________. Week of February 28 - I can __________. Week of March 7 - I feel __________. Week of March 14 - No class. Week of March 21 - I will __________.

Hello!
My name is Dr. Torie Fowler and I am excited to meet new students! I live in Florida, have three girls ranging in age from three to nine, and have five years of teaching experience. I earned a bachelor's degree in communication from Mississippi State University, a master's degree in public relations from Ball State University, and a PhD at The University of Southern Mississippi.
I am passionate about how we as individuals communicate with one another and how we are communicated to through mass media. I have taught courses at the collegiate level focusing on communication history, public relations, research, advertising, storytelling, event planning, and public speaking. I want to bring similar courses to a younger audience!
I believe most of us learn by doing and that is the core of my teaching philosophy. I want students to not only understand how to do something, but also have confidence in the execution. I will bring in as many hands-on activities as possible and hope this will help guide students through my courses.
When I am not spending time with my family or teaching, I love watching new movies and finding binge-worthy series, along with running and reading!
