In this 11-week course, we will read aloud two chapters each week then we will discuss them and the previous chapters as a group. We will cover the various myths presented in the novel, such as the heroes, gods, monsters, and curses, as well as any themes, like Percy's desire to make his mother proud, his and his campmates' resentment towards their godly parentage for abandonment, and the power of friendship. - Students will have a greater understanding of Greek mythology and mythology in general as well as its purpose in modern society. Students will increase their vocabulary. Students will understand and be able to identify themes in a text.
I have taught English Language Arts, including this novel, to middle school students for 7 years in the United States.
