週1時間. I will make available some brief material on a basic work space set up and I do encourage learners (and even parents!) to check it out well in advance of our first class meeting so you can be sure to have all of the supplies on hand and appropriately arranged in the work area BEFORE arrive to the start of the first class. (My classes are timed strategically to maximize what learners achieve in them. I can't stop for those who arrive unprepared or late, as if I do that, everyone else will have problems within their projects.)

I will give a grade and/or assessments to parents at the end of the course.

このクラスで学べること

In this course I teach learners basic sketching skills utilizing basic shapes, such as circles, squares, rectangles, triangles, and variations of these. Building sketching skills on ordinary shapes is a highly effective and simple way to achieve sketches that can then lead to finished drawings or paintings and serve budding artists monumentally.

I also teach fundamental watercolor painting techniques within the creation of each monster. Within each painting, I am sure to include some different techniques so learners are building their skillset within the use of watercolor paints as we progress in the course. Many of the skills I teach transfer well to other types of paints.

Watercolors are oftentimes the go-to choice for parents as they are not really destructive, don't really "spill" and don't dry hard and crunchy like other paints do. Watercolor paints will still stain lighter colored, porous items, however, so be sure clothing worn and surfaces around the painting area, or used within the process, are ok to potentially stain.

Watercolors are easy to use, however some aspects of them are tricker to manage than other types of paints. This is why I teach certain things within my watercolor classes to ensure learners get the best understanding of them and, therefore, achieve great results with using them. When someone can get good results with watercolor paints, they can easily move into other types of paint with ease because they have skills that are already at a higher level.

My classes tend to be fun, enjoyable, and relaxing. I offer a no-judgement environment where all art pieces are celebrated. Within the enjoyable, relaxed space, it's easier for kids to move into utilizing techniques taught and expand their art skills.

We will create three monster paintings within this 6-meeting course. Learners are encouraged to sketch and paint between classes if they want to - so long as they do so on a new piece of paper (meaning - please do not continue on a painting we are intending to work on together in the next class on your own). (And so long as they keep some of their watercolor paper purchased for this class so they still have some to paint on during it.) It is important that we do our "Part 2" portions of the monsters we create in class together - together. Otherwise learners will miss skills I'm teaching and might find themselves sitting in classes meant to be for completing a monster we started together in the previous meeting, with nothing in particular to do if they've gone off and painted additionally on it on their own.

My classes utilize the class time very specifically and it is important that learners arrive on time, their art areas set up already, and be in the mindset of getting into the art.

I request no food to be eaten during class and no doing other things at the same time as these will impede getting their projects completed to the point each class is designed to bring them to.

Please be respectful of other learners and keep comments in a spirit of kindness and encouragement.

Please come to class to create art, and refrain from rambunctious, distracting behavior.

If a learner in this class wishes to make alterations to the style of monster they are creating, that is fine so long as it is close enough to what I'm doing that the skills I'm sharing will translate to what they are also doing. It is important to keep any style changes within the "silly" and "cute" range of things. Please - don't come to this class if you want to make scary or creepy monsters within the class. You are free, however, to take what you learn in this class and do what ever kinds of other paintings you want to in your own time. While IN class, though, keep things fun, cute, silly and happy.

I'm looking forward to having a fun and productive time with you if this course theme is something you would like to enjoy doing!

Purple & Blue Pom Pom Antena Monster Part 1
In this class, we cover getting started with getting our paper set up for painting, we sketch our first monster and start painting it. We cover simple sketching techniques using circles, a modified triangle, and utilize a few different watercolor paint techniques within this class.

Learners are encouraged to follow along with me and utilize the basics of what I'm doing as just a starting point for themselves. Their monsters will look a little different than mine - and they should!

Googly-Eyed Splash Monster Part 1
In this class, we create the beginnings of a monster based around the creation of two eyes and a smily mouth with an odd tongue that almost looks like it is made out of dripping paint. The body of the monster looks as though it is made out of various splashes of paint.

We will sketch the initial elements of this monster and start the painting process within this class meeting. We will complete the paintings aspects of it in the next meeting.

We will be using cups of water. Now and then, water can spill. It's a great idea to be sure the area being painted in is not going to be a problem if water spills on it. Or if paint stains it. Be sure electronic devices are not going to be spilled on if water tips over. As long as learners find the images in my artwork and videos fun and cute, we should be fine. I do request learners joining this class keep their monsters on the fun, cute side and refrain from creating creepy or scary looking monsters.
受講に必要なもの
I will be supplying a PDF of supplies needed for this class. I've curated a list of supplies (and even suggested two or three choices within them on some things). All items I've selected are of decent quality and are very reasonably priced. Please find it attached for enrolled learners. Supply costs can vary, depending upon quality or brands selected. I've listed lower cost items that still have a good quality to them. There are cheaper versions out there, but they often times are such poor quality they cause issues to the painting process. Some items you might already have around the house and they can be used. If you have paint brushes already, it's possible you might already have some that fit the sizes we will be using in this class, etc. Some items I've listed can be purchased at Dollar Tree.

The paper from Hobby Lobby I suggest is between $4 and $7.50 depending upon what week you get it - every other week it is 40% off. The watercolor pans are around $6 that I use. I point out other options on watercolor paints, but I don't think anything on that list is over $10.

We need a few ROUND brushes. I do recommend having these sizes on hand: 10/0; 2/0; 2; 6; 8; 10. Purchased individually, they will add up. In sets, they are far more reasonable. The two smallest sizes - 10/0 and 2/0 are not always found in sets where you also will find sizes 2,6,8, and 10. But they could be gotten individually if needed and the others found in a set. If you have a 4, I'd bring it, but I typically create my paints with the sizes I've listed. all of them are ROUND brushes. No other shapes used in this class.

These are the most costly of the supplies, but they are not exceptionally high, either. Everything else is very low cost, much of which can be found at the Dollar Tree stores or in your house already.

I began my own artistic journey as a young child. My mom once told me I drew a cat when I was 2 years old and it was "pretty good, too." I began learning from "How-To Draw" books when I was around 6 years old. Once art classes were offered in school I was in them every semester.

I learned to work in several types of media.

I still create my own drawings and paintings. I find it fun to teach art to kids and I have a special fondness for whimsy watercolor art and, especially, silly monsters!
