In this multi-day class, the students will be able to define the parts of speech (noun, action verb, adverb, and adjective) as well identify them in a sentence.  

Week 1- nouns
Week 2 - action verbs
Week 3 - adverbs
Week 4- adjectives
Week 5- review of week 1-4 

The students will see a definition of the part of speech and draw pictures to match the part of speech.  Students will then share their pictures with each other.   Next, students will listen (and sing along with if comfortable) to a short song and/or video about the part of speech to create another memory of the particular part of speech.  Lastly, students will be filling in silly stories as a group with the parts of speech for each lesson that will also build upon the ones already studied for application and review.  

I like to use and discuss the KWL chart (what do you KNOW, what do you WANT to learn, and what have you LEARNED) going into each session to activate learning and apply it to the lesson.

Background knowledge for the class: the student should be able to read and write/copy basic simple words.
