このクラスで学べること
This class is a deeper dive into the content of my one-time class, LEGO® Math: Multiplication. Sometimes when we are doing math in a hands-on way, there just isn't enough time for everyone to process the information and build at the same time. This flex class is a respond to that need! Each week, I will upload a series of videos and materials that address a key concept of multiplication and use LEGO® bricks (or similar studded brick building toy) as a hands-on way to approach the content. Learners will be given a few (three to five) "Participation Opportunities" for each week's work. These are opportunities for the learners to respond to a challenge with videos or photographs of their work. Learners may choose one or more participation opportunity per week and they are encouraged to respond to each other's creative pieces with messages and videos in the Outschool classroom. The topics for each week are as follows: Week 1: Skip-Counting; Multiples; Least Common Multiple Week 2: LEGO® Bricks as Groups; the Commutative Property Week 3: Building Area Models and Relating them to the Commutative Property Week 4: Using Area Models to Identify Factors; Prime and Composite Numbers Week 5: Extending an Area Model to illustrate the Distributive Property IMPORTANT NOTE for families whose learners have *already* taken my LEGO® Math: Multiplication or LEGO® Math: Flexible Bundle class. . . For the most part, this class covers the same topics as those covered in the one-time live class or the first week of the flexible bundle. The goal of this longer flex class is to provide more depth, more practice, and to move at a slower pace. In addition, this class does involve some concepts (Least Common Multiple, and the Distributive Property) that are not covered in the other classes. Some students who would like more time with each concept may benefit from taking this class as well. However, if your child already was very successful with the content covered in the single session multiplication class, they may find that this class repeats much of the same information and tasks.

受講に必要なもの
Students will need access to a set of LEGO® bricks* in a variety of rectangular sizes. I recommend trying to have the following: About twenty 1x1 bricks Sixteen 1x2 bricks Eight 2x2 bricks Eight 1x3 bricks Eight 2x2 bricks Four 2x3 bricks Four 2x4 bricks Students should also have a pencil or pen and graph paper. *The brand is unimportant — students can use another LEGO®-like toy and the concepts will be the same. I use this kit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00NAPJ8DM. If you look at the "What's in the Bag?" picture, you can see what kinds of brick sizes and shapes I like to have on hand. Only rectangular bricks are used in this class. I also pre-sort my bricks into bags according to size/shape (ex: all the 8x2 bricks are in a bag, all the 4x4 are in a bag, all the 6x1 are in a bag, etc). The advantage of flexible-scheduling is that learners can take the time to find what they need for each activity.
