This class will not be offered again on Outschool as LIVE class until September 2023. 📝 Ms. Price is a certified teacher with over a decade of experience teaching elementary-aged learners in a brick & mortar classroom. While Ms. Price has taught all subjects in these grades, she especially loves putting her Bachelor of Arts in English degree to use teaching writing classes! Ms. Price is passionate about instilling a love of writing in children, so all of her writing classes are taught using highly engaging, fun topics to make the writing process exciting for young learners! 📝

CLASS FORMAT:
In this on-going class, each week will start with a mini lesson about paragraphs. Learning how to organize thoughts into a proper paragraph is an important skill that students need to master before middle school. However, it is a skill that can be challenging for many kids to learn. What is the purpose of a paragraph? What should be included in a paragraph? How long does a paragraph need to be? Next, we will have a lesson about a specific type of paragraph: explanatory, descriptive, persuasive, or narrative! Finally, students will be given a fun and engaging prompt to practice the type of paragraph we discussed that week!

After each student writes his or her paragraph, they will have the opportunity to share their writing with the class! In this way, students will get to practice writing a specific type of paragraph and hear several examples from their peers of the same type of writing!

⏰ A NOTE ABOUT SCHEDULING:
The length of this class length may vary slightly depending on the number of learners enrolled due to the fact that we spend time reading our paragraphs at the end of class! If the class is on the smaller side, class may end up to 5 minutes early. When the class is on the more full side, we may end up to 5 minutes late. For this reason, it would be wise to not schedule any classes back to back with this class! ⏰

🧍🏻‍♀️🧍🏽‍♂️WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS CLASS? This class is designed for upper elementary ages. It is a *beginning* paragraph writing class. This skill would typically be considered a 3rd or 4th grade skill by U.S. standards. In my teaching experience, most 3rd graders are just starting to learn the concept of a paragraph, while it is pretty common for 4th graders to still struggle with the concept of writing a well-organized paragraph. Second graders who are advanced in their writing skills also do very well in this class! If you have a learner who is slightly older and could benefit from the skills taught in this class, please reach out to discuss an age range exception!

⭐️ PLEASE NOTE: To be successful in this class, learners must be able to independently write detailed, complete sentences. I will not be modeling how to write sentences in this class. If your learner could benefit from seeing me model how to write a detailed, descriptive sentence, please check out this class: https://bit.ly/CreativeWritingClub_5-Senses ⭐️

📝 WEEKLY SCHEDULE: 📝

We will rotate through these four paragraphs on a 4-week rotation

1) Descriptive
2) Expository
3) Narrative
4) Persuasive/Opinion

2023 Schedule:
Week of January 9: Descriptive
Week of January 16: Expository
Week of January 23: Narrative
Week of January 30: Persuasive
Week of February 6: Descriptive
Week of February 13: Expository
Week of February 20: Narrative
Week of February 27: Persuasive

⭐️ PLEASE NOTE: These topics will continue to rotate every 4 weeks. Your learner may jump in at any time, as each week's lesson is self-contained. Children learn through repetition, so most learners will get the most out of this class by completing at least 2 full cycles of topics (8 weeks). Where they start in the cycle does not make any difference. ⭐️

LIVE VS. FLEX CLASS
The LIVE version of this class (this listing!) quite obviously won’t work for all schedules. Therefore, I also offer a FLEX version of this class, which allows your learner to do the work at whatever time works best for their schedule. The flex class contains the exact same content! It is simply delivered in a different format. In the flex class, rather than immediate verbal feedback from me (which learners receive in the live class), learners will receive written feedback on their submitted work. For some learners, this actually is preferable! No written feedback is provided in the LIVE version of this class. If written feedback is preferred, the flex class is the best option!

📚 CLASS POLICIES 📚

MUTING: I love a highly interactive class, and I do not require students to be muted in my classes. That said, if there is a lot of background noise going on in a home, I will quietly mute that learner's camera so that other learners are not distracted by the noise. The learner is always welcome to unmute to ask questions or share!

CLASS RECORDING POLICY: When you pay for one of my classes, you are paying for the LIVE class, just like if this were an in-person class! I do not share recordings of my group classes in order to protect the privacy and safety of all learners. However, you are welcome to reach out if you have specific questions about something covered in class! Finally, if you prefer a recorded class, you may register for the FLEX version of this class where you will have access to 4 recorded lessons.

REFUND POLICY: This is a weekly, on-going class. Your weekly payment reserves a spot just for your child! Just like with in-person classes or extra-curricular events, refunds are not given when your child misses class. If you will be gone for an extended period of time, you may un-enroll your learner to open up their spot for another child and re-enroll upon your return, if space is available at that time.
