I like to keep students and parents informed on the progress of their students, what they can choose to do in order to continue to master English. I review often, or less often if there is consistent progress.

Is your learner having difficulty speaking or reading English? Does it bore them? Work with someone who will help them excel in English while having fun as they also learn to act, speak clearly, and have confidence!

In this class, as they become fun characters and tell amazing stories, we will focus on pronunciation, vocabulary comprehension, and analyzing English text to ensure a deep understanding. We always begin with an analysis of what the student needs, their strengths and weaknesses, and adapt each session to continuously build their English and Acting skills. We will select a performance text suited to their skill level, and learn English as we dive within the story. Each week will be a different lesson, and stories that will keep your child’s interest.

Week of July 5th: How do you feel?
On the English side, we begin to see how well we can express ourselves already in English. We identify stories that the students enjoy, and use those as our basis of building a strong vocabulary and pronunciation skills. On the Acting side, we will remember that performing is not about faking emotions, but asking how we really feel deep inside, how that comes into our bodies, and the beginning of controlling our emotions.

Week of July 12th: What’s happening in the text?
We will dive into the different expressions English uses, such as how many words have multiple meanings. We will also continue to have the students talk, read, and act with each other in English so they can get the feeling and rhythm of how real conversations go. For Acting, in most works of fiction, understanding the text is critical and needs to be studied closely. This work will often give learners clues as to how the author imagines the character will be. This week focuses on searching for information on who we are playing and how what they say and do can tell you who they are.

Week of July 19th: Who are you?
We will focus this week on pronunciation, because it’s not enough to say a word, but we must also say it correctly so we will be understood by native speakers. And to a degree, we work on sounding like a native speaker, so if we chose to do so, we could. For Acting, casting directors choose actors based on the artist's unique and fantastic personality traits, so what are yours? And how can you bring these traits to your performance work? What from your own life can you draw on to create a realistic character? This week puts a mirror up to ourselves and compares our lives to our characters' lives.

Week of July 26th: Who am I in this Story?
Students will really begin to break down a script in English, focusing on what is happening, why the story goes the way it does, and we examine what is universal in storytelling and what is culture-specific. We also push to learn even more complicated English words, phrases, and expressions, so learners are not lost when we come to a cultural phrase or reference. On the Acting side, characters play different roles in a play based on its structure and how big the part is. Are you the lead, driving the story forward, or are you the small part standing in the hero's way? Am I the villain, or the love interest, or something else? Knowing who you are from the perspective of the play is crucial to performing your role correctly and excellently.

These are the kinds of class topics we will cover, and many others may come up based on the progress and interests of the class.
