The assessments will be given in class as a review to make sure that the students are understanding the letter, sounds, and spelling activities. it will not be labeled as a test or assessment to the students, but as a review at the beginning of each class. No one will be called out or called upon unless information is volunteered by student.

This class will be a daily introduction and review of the following literacy skills and concepts.  The skills and concepts addressed in Section 1 are:
1. Correct letter formation for both upper case and lower case letters
2. Upper case and lower case letter identification
3. Beginning sounds
4. Reading basic words (mostly CVC) and illustrating to demonstrate comprehension 
5. Tracing sight words
6. Vowel identification for each sight word
7. Correct ordering of letters to write sight words and write missing letters
8. Identifying the shape (boxes) of a whole word (sight words)
9. Identifying a sight word in a small word search
10. This is a four day class and the homework will be provided for the student on the off day. The student can bring the homework back to the first day of class the next week to show Teacher Dayna.
***This class is designed as a daily review of the literacy skills posted above.  If a student is just learning the letter names of the alphabet then the parent should check out Teacher Dayna's Letter of the Week classes (dates soon to be posted) or  
***If Teacher Dayna sees that a student is needing assistance in a specific area, the teacher will talk with parents to have a (once a month) 30 minute tutoring session(cost $1.00) on the specific area the student is struggling with in the weekly class.  


***Weekly Letters that will be focused on and Dolch Sight Words as well as phonics instruction 
Week 1: Aa, B, C, D, g, h, i, j - a/look; Dd, C, E, F, i, j, k, l  - and/are; Ss, D, E, F, G, j, k, l, m - I/make; Cc, E, F, G, H, k, l, m, n - see/need
Week 2: review, Oo,F, G, H, I, l, m, n, o  - can/where; Ff, G, H, I, J, m, n, o, p - me/funny; Gg, H, I, J, K, n, m, p, q - the/jump; 
Week 3: review, Hh, I, J, K, L, o, p, q, r - you/not; Rr, J, K, L, M, p, q, r, s - is/that; Nn, K, L, M, q, r, s, t - like/away; 
Week 4: review, Ee, L, M, N, O, r, s, t, u - my/help; Mm, N, O, P, s, r, u, v - at/went; Pp, N, O, Q, t, u, v, w - down/with;

 I have significant experience teaching both elementary age children and teenagers.    After receiving my teaching degree in Elementary Education I taught second grade in a brick and mortar classroom for 7 years.  When I started my family I chose to quit teaching, but I was able to continue tutoring local students.  When my children reached school age our family became a homeschool family.  As a homeschool mom I have taught not only my children, but I have taught in local Co-op's.  While teaching at home and in the Co-ops I created my own curriculum and also used a purchased curriculum.  I tried to teach my classes in a way that would meet the academic objectives for each student, but also be interactive and fun.  I have my TESOL and am confident in teaching in an online classroom as I have taught over 6800 online English as a Second Language classes to children 3-18.   Another area of expertise I have is 35mm and digital photography and how to correctly preserve all of our photographs in proper scrapbooks with safe products for future generations.  In this day and age most photos don't make it off of a person's phone, let alone into a scrapbook where people can actually enjoy and remember moments in their lives.  As a homeschool teacher I facilitated students for 7 years in a yearbook class to create a digital yearbook for their peers and taught hundreds of women in gatherings around the country to preserve their pictures by properly placing them in safe albums using photo safe products.   Based on my experience and my passion to teach, I am confident in my abilities to create a classroom environment that is inviting, educational, fun, and interactive, whether I have one student or multiple students. I am looking forward to meeting your student and helping them engage in a class that will guide them in learning new skills, as well as build confidence and facilitate independent learning.
