Students will be given worksheets to print out after the class to reinforce their learning. Because this class meets once, this is optional and they have the choice to send their homework to me to look over. They will get a vocabulary list that goes over everything they have studied

I do not routinely give an assessment at the end of the class. However, if a student or parent would like an assessment, they may request one by emailing me.

このクラスで学べること

Have you ever wondered what classes are out there to help you become fluent in Japanese? I know I have. Well, I have designed this five-part beginner class (and more classes to come) to help you on your journey to becoming fluent. This class will not only help you learn grammar and vocabulary efficiently and effectively but will also help you learn about the culture and the people as well.

I will put you in real-life situations where you will be encouraged to use Japanese to successfully communicate with others.

After this lesson, students will be able to:

Week 1:

1. Learn about the past tense of to think (I do not think it WAS expensive, I do not think they WERE 19)
2. Learn how to say the past informal tense of to say (they said they were hungry) (before we learned the formal tense)

Week 2:
1. Learn how to change a verb into an adjective (moving cars, sparkling eyes etc.)
2. Learn about have already and have not yet (I have not eaten, I have eaten already)

Week 3:

1. Learn how to change a verb into an adjective (moving cars, sparkling eyes etc.)
2. Learn about have already and have not yet (I have not eaten, I have eaten already)

Week 4:

1. Learn the kanji for noon
2. Learn the kanji for After
3. Learn the kanji for Before
4. Learn the kanji for Name
5. Learn the kanji for White
6. Learn the kanji for Rain
7. Learn the kanji for To Write
8. Learn that the combinations of these kanji can make other words like (after and noon make afternoon)

Week 5:

1. Learn the kanji for Friend
2. Learn the kanji for Between
3. Learn the kanji for House
4. Learn the kanji for To speak
5. Learn the kanji for Little
6. Learn the kanji for Old
7. Learn the kanji for To know
8. Learn the kanji for To come
9. Learn that the combinations of these kanji can make other words like (middle and old means second-hand)

You will definitely enjoy this class. We will play in class games, provide visual aids to help guide discussion, group discussion and real life situations to solidify what to say in certain situations. Some examples of real life situations would be what would you say if someone stepped on your foot, if someone saw your messy room how would you explain it?

I want you to feel comfortable and engaged while learning.

There is a pre-requisite. You will either need to know how to read, write and speak Hiragana and Katakana before this class or take Hiragana and Katakana classes simultaneously. You will also need to have taken Road to Fluency Beginner Class 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 or know all the material in this class.

Please bring an open mind and be ready to learn.

Please note: "All material will be presented via PowerPoint and screen shared by the teacher. The games will also be screen shared by the teacher. Learners will not click links, access outsides websites, or need to login to any accounts."

I received my undergraduate degree in the Japanese language, culture, and history. I also earned my Master's degree in K-12 education. I studied abroad at Nihon University in Tokyo as well as worked as an English teacher in Niigata, Japan. I was able to see what I learned firsthand.
