In this one-time class students will learn the basics of democracy and where it came from. We will discuss republics and representation. We learn what representative governments look like around the world today. We will discuss possible pros and cons. This course covers three types of representative voting systems from around the world, first-past-the-post, proportional representation, and run-off elections. Students will learn political science vocabulary and concepts. This class is presented in an interactive lecture-style with slides, visuals and discussion. Students will interact through discussions and will demonstrate their understanding of the concepts through a Kahoot. This class is ideal for students who with a limited understanding of government.

Students will understand how the modern definition of democracy is different than the original definition.
Students will analyze various types of voting systems found in representative governments throughout the world.

Politics can be a sensitive and heated topic, but rest assured, all opinionated questions will be addressed in a professional and education manner, and students will be encouraged to discuss such topics with their parents after class. This is not meant to be a controversial topic but a simple overview and introduction to voting systems are representative government.
Kahoot is used in this one-time class. Students do not need an account. Links and class codes will be provided.
